Which Church teachings do you struggle to accept?

Cases don’t make it to the tribunal unless they show a reasonable prospect of the outcome sought. I would doubt that there is much variation in the factors that underpin validity from one faith to another.
In 1929, there were 9 marriage annulments in the USA, Presently, it has run as high as 50,000 marriage annulments per year in the USA. I don’t see any other faith experiencing such a huge increase in marriage annulments over the same period of time.

Also in the early church divorce was allowed. So it IS a part of church tradition. So even you roman catholics have to admit that it can be changed back at any time.

.
A…not “Roman Catholics” - but rather “Catholics”.

And your thought there represents a misreading of history. The early Church was yes quite against divorce. Any separate that was permitted (just as St. Paul notes) did not dissolve the Christian sacramental and consummated marriage. Only death could do that. They where following the Teaching received from the beginning from Jesus.

But no plan here to continue to argue…not the time (no time even to go into the rest of your post…I just wanted to note that in passing …for one of my great loves is the early Church).

Where did Rome condemn the practice of divorce in the Eastern Churches?

Someperson555 said the same thing. And he came away thinking the Church taught spilling sperm was akin to abortion. Enough said! 🤷
Other churches have all accepted that contraception is acceptable, there is nothing in the bible that says it is wrong. The church IS obsessed with such matters. You shouldnt have to abstain or only have sex when you are not fertile, that takes the spontaneity out of it and that isnt natural. Sex is not just for makung babies, some couples dont want children, they should be wanted not forced on people. Its absolutely fine if couples do not wish to have a family. Its not for everyone.

Am I the only person here on CAF who struggle to accept Church teachings on different issues? I love the Mass, believe in the True Presence, and absolutely adore the Holy Mother…
What are the issues that you deal with and pray about on a daily basis? Thank you all , in advance for being honest. 😉
I really struggle with Catholic social teaching, and not so much with what I read in the catechism as with what is taught by my local parish, my diocese, the Church in actual practice. And I know if my interpretation is so different than say, my pastor or my bishop or my pope, that my interpretation is likely not the correct one. My viewpoint is that the Church must be correct so I have to figure out a way to accept what it teaches whether it makes any sense or not.

While I firmly believe in my obligation to be loving and charitable to the poor, I have a lot of trouble with the idea of forced government income redistribution, confiscatory tax structures, big government programs in place of individual or local religious charities, open borders, etc. I’m not saying all of these are explicitly ordered in the catechism, but they are what is taught and practiced and fought for by my church leaders in my local parish, my diocese and the U.S.

I’m disturbed by being told by church leaders I am obligated to vote for higher property taxes in order to support public school funding and to vote against water rights for farmers in order for everyone to have a “fair” share of water. I think farmers grow food and need water to do it. I like to eat and all the poor people I know like to eat, too. Therefore, if farmers have water, poor people can eat and so voting against taking away farmers’ water rights is voting for feeding the poor. And when I suggested organizing a group to raise money to buy school supplies and computers, I was told that wasn’t fair to schools that don’t have such a group so Catholic social teaching obliges Catholics to ensure it is done through property taxation (never mind that as a renter I don’t pay property taxes). I see illegal immigration as a way to import a slave class of menial laborers who have no legal rights and are forced to live in poverty. That seems wrong to me and I don’t understand why the church so avidly supports what is essentially slavery.

I think the death penalty should be very rare and used only for the most horrific crimes. But I don’t oppose it altogether. I even understand the church’s reasoning why it should not be used. I question whether we can effectively render horrific criminals incapable of doing harm since they are housed with other prisoners who can also be harmed, but I kind of admire th optimism of those who think we can render them incapable. And while I read in the catechism that the church does not exclude recourse to the death penalty and only says it should be “very rare if not practically nonexistent”, I’ve also been taught by my priest, deacon and other leaders that the past 3 popes have expanded their understanding of that decision to mean it should be completely nonexistent always.

And I get confused by the pope being anti-air conditioning in Laudato Si and my parish having a fundraising drive to raise money for an air conditioner so it won’t be so miserably hot when the archbishop comes to visit this summer.

So Catholic social teaching confuses me. And maybe that confusion is more in my confusion over how much I need to listen to the authority of my pastor, archbishop, pope, etc, and how much I can rely on my own interpretation of things.

Probably the answer lies in the end of your initial query where you say, “…pray about on a daily basis.”

The has been the case since the get go.

Starting with creation (as Jesus noted)…and in the New Testament -with Jesus.

Divorce has been seen as evil - it is an evil.

There can be yes some “civil- legal” decisions when such was needed - to sort out care of children and even of property etc. But such is not and will never be “a divorce”…

And one if there was a valid consummated sacramental marriage - there can be only one marriage - until one of the spouse die. The Church does not permit adultery. Period.

Whatever may have been done here or there in Churches separated from full communion with the Catholic Church - are well just that. Actions not in full communion with the Catholic Church.

Churches and Ec. Communities - yes started unfortunately conforming to the world in this mater in the first half of the 20th century… contrary to then 1900 years of Christian teaching and life (which the agreed with and lived from their inception until then)…a very unfortunate choice …and one that has born so many ill fruits.

Such would be contrary to the nature of sex and marriage as God created it…

Tis of its very nature to be open to life and unititive.

One ought not marry if one does not wish to enter into that state in life and live according to it.

What on earth is unfortunate about contraception?
Besides it being a sin?

Is is contrary to the love of husband and wife.

Inserts a great lie into the midst of marriage.

Has harmed society at large (sexual revolution…harmed the family).

Killed or preventing so many new lives - important in themselves as well for society.

Makes persons into things to use.

Can seriously harm physical health of the woman (ie. cancer)

Deprives children of brothers and sisters.

Contrary to the unitive nature of the marital act.

Contrary to the nature of sex - of the marital act that is.

etc etc etc

I do not want to get into arguing back and forth here…you can find more information on Catholic.com

Someday you may change your mind.

Did Rome ever issue a letter specifically denouncing the practice in the East?

I do not know all the letters issued over the centuries - and if any were issued noting to those Churches that where not in full communion with the Church - may have here and there “did this or did that” (all sorts of things can happen in some local place). I do not imagine that the Church would waste time sending a letter to a Church that is not in full Communion - tell them Y is not right (if Y was done locally there?) - when the Church is not in full communion.

Such has been the teaching on Marriage – right from Jesus. Sort of a “do not eat the daisies” thing.

Again - do not want to get into some back and forth. Do not have the time for such.

Have a great weekend!
