“A Place in The Sun”. Managed to make me sympathize with the main character yet not approve of what he does, and I’m still wondering if at the end if he got what he deserved, or not. But I doubt a modern remake of this would be able to achieve that.
“To Kill a Mockingbird”, not just because of Peck’s performance, but because I’m pretty sure any modern remake would incorporate the version of Atticus encountered in the “sequel”, even though apparently “Go Set a Watchman” was actually written beforehand. So the much greyer Atticus of that book is NOT meant to be same version of Atticus we see in Mockingbird.
