if you did not go to the one you do? How about the top two or three?

I know most of the Catholics will not participate.
  1. Episcopalian/Anglican
  2. Lutheran
I dont have a third…maybe Presbyterian I think…

I’m Catholic and I don’t mind responding. If I weren’t Catholic, I would belong to a denomination that preached and practised a simple faith in Jesus and the Scriptures. Probably Baptist or Quaker.

Assembly of God congregations are almost indistingishable from my home church. Perhaps the Unied Methodist Church of my childhood.

If I weren’t Catholic I would be Eastern Orthodox or Oriental Orthodox.

I’ve been told my dad’s side of the family is descended from a long line of Druids, so I’ve joked about how, if St. Patrick hadn’t gone back to Ireland to bring the Gospel to his former captors, I probably would be a Druid priestess cutting the sacred mistletoe at Yuletide. :: laughs::

If the Catholic faith were a lie (the only reason that I would ever have to abandon it) I would become Jewish. If the Catholic faith were a lie then Orthodox and non-Catholic Christianity would all be based on a lie too.

Would you be Pharisee, Tantum? 😉 Just kidding. 🙂

Wesleyan. They are evangelical, live simply as the Mennonites, do, and have a flavor similar to the Methodists. A nice mix. No frills.

If I weren’t a Catholic, I’d go to no other, where would I go to, He has the words of eternal life.

Probably would not go back to the Episcopal or United Methodist Church. I would probably go to the ACNA or something of the sorts. But I don’t have to worry about that. 😃

If Catholicism wasn’t it, I would be:
  1. Orthodox=I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently. Lots of incense all the time, I like the Divine Liturgy more than even the Tridentine Mass , Eastern theology “makes sense” to me, a lot of the arguments in favor of their views on controversial topics (Papacy, indulgences/purgatory, doctrinal development, etc) make sense, and no continuous explanation of various horrible things that have happened in the history of our Church.
  2. Mormon=I like the uniformity of church activities on Sundays, where there are set meetings for all ages in EVERY church. A more universal priesthood among males that means more than the “priesthood of all believers”. Temples, and the eschatology (there really isn’t any worry of going to Hell or something less than this world, though not everyone will go to the highest degree of Heaven).
  3. Wicca=I want to be like Harry Potter! 👍

Well, my spirituality is constantly changing so I’ll only answer with which denominations appeal most to me at the moment. I currently do not attend any service.
  1. Theravada Buddhist
  2. Unitarian Universalism
  3. Episcopalian Church
  4. Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

This may or may not assist you AJ but perhaps it will someone else reading this thread. When I was in my early twenties, I seriously, and I mean seriously looked at everything. I wanted the truth. My list would have read:

ECKANKAR
BAHAI
SELF REALIZATION FELLOWSHIP
CHRISTIANITY

Now, in my forties and with a large family, I am glad that I made a choice not just for spiritual reasons but I have given my children a framework that they have found friends, support, mission service, fun activities, and yes holiday traditions that they FULLY enjoy. Outside of the doctrinal reasons, I think as we age and have families, we make a lot of choices that is the best choice for everyone and for the generations of my family yet to come.

Yeah, I’m the same way as you were. I’m trying to find my truth here and I feel like every single path is just another opportunity for education and “enlightenment”…if you will.

I feel like I have plenty of time to make a decision on religion and that you shouldn’t be too hasty in making decisions that could affect eternity. 😛

I fully agree AJ. Good luck!👍

Thanks.

I’m odd in the fact that I’m fine with people trying to Convert me. I see it as an opportunity to learn. I attended Catholic RCIA for close to a year and then dropped out. I study religion, what can I say? If I find what is true along the way, then all the better! 🙂

I’d probably become Orthodox - I could become a priest (I am married).

Having gone from Protestant to Catholic, and as far as I’m concerned, having moved closer to the truth, I would hardly be likely to go back again, since I’d only be moving from the original church to a later derivative.

If however, I became thoroughly disillusioned with the Christian God or Catholic Church for some reason, I’d probably head towards the Buddhists.

Why are people listing things like Buddhism and Wicca? I thought this thread was asking which other denomination of Christianity they might go to, not which other religion.

I’ve thought about this quite a lot lately, actually. There is no possibility that I would ever go back to a Protestant church, but I think with time I could find a home in an Orthodox church. I am quite attracted to various aspects of the Coptic Orthodox faith, but I don’t feel I know enough about what separates them from the rest of Apostolic Christianity to be entirely comfortable there. I would need to have a long period of discernment no matter where I end up, much longer than what I went through to join the Catholic Church, anyway.
