March of the Penguins is marvellous. The photography is done by National Geographic, which of course is the best in the world, and the narration is done by Morgan Freeman (who is also in Batman Begins, as Lucius Fox, the scientist who creates the Batmobile and all the cool toys that Batman uses) - he has a way of taking a very simple narrative and making it very exciting, like a high adventure thriller. I thought it was extremely well done, and we enjoyed it thoroughly, at our house. 🙂

I can tell you a bit about Mr Wenham (who by the way is fairly easy on the eye too - at least in my humble opinion).

He’s an Australian actor :extrahappy: - I think mainly stage. He’s best known here for one TV role in particular - a tv series called ‘Seachange’. If you can find DVDs of it or otherwise get to see it it’s highly recommended.

Otherwise he was also in a very good little Australian movie called ‘The Boys’. Warning though - it is a somewhat violent and certainly very dark movie, so not for little ones.

I’m currently on Simpsons season 7 and just picked up the first three seasons of Hogan’s Heroes. (I’m on season 1)
I also picked the first season of Murphy Brown. (I believe this is the only one that out at the moment - season one.)

I know what you mean. While I know that some people do not like subtitles, why “Americanize” a movie for that reason. I just finished watching it again and it was great. Can’t imagine what will be done with it. Oh I know, re-make Pan’s Labyrinth and Das Boot while we are at it.
 
We saw The Devil Wears Prada the other day - WOW!! That’s a really good movie!! 👍

I was really not expecting much when we put it on - I thought it was going to be a fluff thing - but it’s great!! 🙂

**Wasn’t Meryl Streep fantastic?! I loved how “evil” she was.

Just finished watching “Premonition” with Sandra Bullock. Good movie.**
 
I’m hoping to stop by Hollywood Video this weekend and see if “Into the Blue” is out yet. It’s the newest documentary on the UFO phenomena. I’ve always enjoyed the whole paranormal thing, and I adamatly believe in the exsistance of aliens. And if they finally have a copy of Romero’s “Day of the Dead” in I might get that too. I know his movies are very gory, but I do love how he blends horror and socio-politico commentary. And finally, I think I’m going to start rewatching the X-Files. It’s been way too long since I spent some quality time with the FBI’s “Most Unwanted”. 👍
 
I hate to admit this but I watched 40 Year Old Virgin this week.:o A guy from my husband’s job lent it to him.

You know I was pretty surprised. Yes there was a huge amount of profanity, sexual references, references to pornography, and there were topless women. The main character tells his coworkers he isn’t interested in masturbating, choses to watch Everybody Loves Raymond over a huge box of pornography one guy forces upon him and doesn’t want to sleep with just any woman “to get it over with”. He ends up in a dating relationship where after an almost sexual encounter they decide to wait 20 dates before engaging in sex.

SPOILER:

In the end he reveals to the woman he falls in love with that he’s a virgin and they wait until after they get married to have sex. (She’s a single mom with three kids.)

Even his co-worker friends at the end of the movie realize he is the one who has the right idea.

Really I did not expect this from this movie. It can be hard to get past all the crudeness/vulgar references of the movie but the ending really surprised me. I thought they would end up having sex after “being in love”. I did not expect the waiting until marriage thing from a Hollywood movie. Especially a movie like this.
 
Premonition with Sandara Bullock and (Cole) Julian McMahon. It was great.😃
 
Watched season two of **The Office **(anxiously awaiting season 3 release)

Apocalypto by Mel Gibson (what a movie!, the acting was compelling, the cinematography rich, the costume/hair/makeup absolutely amazing, loved the audio commentary too).

Click with Adam Sandler (great story, disappointed in the low humor used to carry the message. Could have been a much better movie without the crassness, but that’s Adam)

I was staying away from it because it looks so dark and gloomy and generally Gibson’s films are long (but good).

I wasn’t expecting the story to be what it was so that was a treat. I thought it was going to be more a period piece showing the highlights of the Mayan culture along with the lead to its demise, but it really is an action film which just plants you at that tail end. There is a lot of brutality in it (tribal warfare, slavery, human sacrifice). I wouldn’t show young kids this piece at all, but high schoolers and up should see this rare glimpse into a lost culture. Can’t help but think of the Roman Empire and the Aztecs too.

I am amazed with the quality of work Mel got out of these ‘actors’ (I think only 2 or 3 were trained in the profession, the rest were just people - you’d never know it!). The detail he allowed to be taken with the costumes, weapons and makeup was worth it. It almost has that ‘documentary’ feel to it, like taking a research paper and bringing it to life - ugliness and all, but richer.

You might want to check out the USCCB’s review before renting it (but it pretty much gives the whole story/movie away so if you want to be surprised don’t read the full review, just the synopsis).

Just recently bought Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and 300. If you think Pixar is very good at CGI, wait until you see Final Fantasy VII; you’ll be blown away by the CGI there.
 
I’m looking forward to getting the WKRP in Cincinnait dvd season one. Loved that show!
 
Does last week count? I was on vacation and watched a movie each night, most of which I have not seen before (I don’t go out to movie theaters and don’t often rent - (I watch baseball and hockey). Last week: Uncle Buck; Cool Runnings (God rest John Candy); Waking Ned Devine; Les Miserables (1978 version); Mr. Holland’s Opus; and Pope John Paul II with Jon Voight (highly recommend) and The Way We Live Now. Until next year…
 
I just finished watching The Lord of the Rings trilogy. For the last movie, I rented the extended version and I liked it much more than the original.
