I have a lot of difficulty with accepting the truths in the bible and within the Catholic Church. I begrudgingly follow it because it is the truth. My friend mentioned that I do not have to do anything I do not want to. I am no fool. I do not want to go to hell. At the same time, I feel drowned of my individuality when confronted with the Catholic faith. I hate having to guard my eyes, my thoughts, etc. I do not want to sin. I just do not think it is always a life or death situation. You will never be good enough. Sometimes I wonder if I would have more freedom if I stepped into the dark side where I was not always constantly monitoring every last thing.

  1. Don’t scrupulous
  2. What could be hindering your life by being catholic? Other than scruples… or listening to people like that… it is a pretty sweet gig.

It is just being scrupulous.
That js probably the only way for you to be tempted. To choose as you put it “the darkside” to free yourself of the burden of your faith. But the burden is actually your own extremes? So I ask you this, in the dark side if you fall prey to extremes, how do those work out for people?

Sure I abhor the “everything is a sin” crowd… they irritate the heck outa me… but I suppose it is better to aim extremes at things that are good than bad. If you apply the same logic of scruples to the darkside, well that can suck 😦

Do you also hate getting dressed in the morning?
Live your life. Stop micromanaging yourself. God does NOT want this attitude. He wants people to experience joy. If you can’t manage getting through a day without worrying what sin you are committing, it’s time to speak with a priest about it. It’s a problem. One not to be taken lightly.
You’re missing the Gospel message.
Read all the times that Jesus interacted with people.
He didn’t condemn anyone. Why do you think the Church does? The Church is here to help you. When you assist at Mass you receive grace. When you go to confession, you receive grace. When you worthily receive Holy Communion you are equipped to battle temptation. Give the Holy Spirit a chance already. Get out of His way and allow God to take the reins, you’ll be a lot happier.

We are a collective religion. Try being one with others in the Church, and you will obtain security.

Forgive me if I sound grumpy, but why on earth would you think that living a sinful lifestyle is in any way free?

Sin makes you stupid, and your whole life is one big implosion after another when you’re committed to sin. The only thing you’re free from is sanity.

Hi Pelagia,

There are other ways of living the faith than the constant self-monitoring. What is interesting about the way our faith is presented is that we are called not to judge, for example, but God made us with the capacity to judge. In fact, if we did not judge people, there would be no reason for the call to forgive, right? We get offended, we judge. Judging is a “gut” thing, it happens faster than we can know that it has happened.

Is that your experience of judging?

Your post reminds me of the second half of Romans 7. The answer is in Rom. 8:1
It is the Spirit filled life.
When we are in love with God, just as being in love with a human person, we have a welling desire to become our best selves for that person.
