Which is your favorite movie directed by William Wyler?

What do the following films have in common: Wuthering Heights, Ben-Hur, The Best Years of Our Lives, The Little Foxes, The Letter, Jezebel, The Heiress, Mrs. Miniver, Dodsworth, Roman Holiday, The Big Country, Friendly Persuasion, Funny Girl, and The Collector? Why, of course, they were all directed by William Wyler, perhaps the greatest Hollywood director of all time.

Which of William Wyler’s many wonderful movies is your favorite? I will reserve judgment for later.
 
**In polite company, the genteel tuscany would say, " The Best Years of Our Lives ".

The honest and twisted tuscany would say, " The Collector ". **

The Best Years of Our Lives

One you didn’t mention would be a close second…Dead End.
 
Hard to pick just one; they’re all classics. Have to go with, “The Best Years Of Our Lives”.
 
Ben Hur. If you watch the movie carefully you will see that even the minor characters have personalities instead of just being background scenery. For example, in the scene where a slave is fanning someone important, he rolls his eyes.

If I had to pick one, according to my own rules, it would be The Letter, starring Bette Davis, Herbert Marshall, James Stephenson, and Gale Sondergaard. Apart from the exceptional acting, the direction by William Wyler is formidable, and the dark, brooding atmosphere of the melodrama is created with exquisite style. A close runner-up is The Heiress, with Olivia de Havilland, Montgomery Clift, Sir Ralph Richardson, and Miriam Hopkins, based on the great Henry James’ novel, Washington Square.

The Letter is also a favorite of mine. I think I like The Heiress better though for me.
