I think people don’t compare them to the Knights of Malta because the Knights of Malta have a few different “uniforms.” They have what you posted in these pics and then they have robs they use for Liturgical events and formal events
I suspect 99% of those that carp about the new KofC beret have no idea that the KoM have different uniforms.

I will grant you that most people in the US who have seen the KoM uniforms have only seen the robes worn at mass, and most likely have not seen the other uniforms.

Even when they wear the “robes”, the often wear black berets…

They typically have a different hat when wearing the robs

I don’t know that I am among those who “carp” about the new KofC beret, but will admit I have been ignorant of the existence of the KoM beret, indeed ignorant of any uniform other than their liturgical robes.

But I do not feel uncomfortable by this ignorance, because:
I ain’t a KoM – I’m a KofC!!

I prefer the new uniform, for sure. My dh is a 3rd degree knight, will be 4th soon and he wouldn’t be caught dead in the old uniform. He is 38 years old and is one of the few younger men in our parishes KoC. So, I think it’s a much needed update and may make the KoC more appealing to younger men which is badly needed in our area.
