I’m just joining the Church, going to my first Mass tomorrow, which in another thread, so many so kindly helped me to understand. I’ll have to wait until September to start the RCIA classes.

I’d like to have an outward show of my faith, like a necklace. I remember as a youth (I’m 55 now) my Catholic friends happily wearing their St.Christopher medallions. Whilst browsing in the local Catholic bookstore last week I noticed quite a number of different necklaces, with crosses and various saints. So I’m wondering what might be an appropriate necklace for me to get at this stage of my journey? Or – would you recommend something else, like a ring? I’d truly value and appreciate your (name removed by moderator)ut!

Thank you so much!

A lovely Crucifix is always appropriate and identifies you as a Catholic, usually (some Protestants wear them, but mostly they wear plain gold crosses).

I wear a simple silver cross to remind me that if I want to follow Jesus, I must pick up my cross daily and walk with him.

I also wear 2 medals, but I added them much later in my journey. One is St. Ignatius of Loyola and the other is St. Mary Magdalene. Ignatius because my spirituality is very Ignatian and his Spiritual Exercises changed my life. Mary Magdalene because she, like me, left the “secular world” behind after her encounter with Jesus and because she is the “Apostle of the Apostles”, and because I work as the cook for my Bishop and the priests who live at our Cathedral, I consider myself an “apostle to the Apostles” 😉

Peace be with you on your journey “home”. 😃

There is no right answer here. Choose something you identify with. If there is a saint you admire or has influenced you then you could choose a medal to wear (you may wait on this as you discern as you will choose a saint name for confirmation next year)

There are a number of crosses and crucifixes to choose from. If you see one you like ask about it’s meaning. Many have special tradition behind them.

Enjoy mass tomorrow and let us all know how it goes!

The Miraculous Medal of the Blessed Virgin Mary is always a good idea.

Buying and wearing a saints medal is a wonderful way to both show of your catholic faith as well as honouring the saint you’ve picked.
You may also feel free to pray to them you know if you’re that catholic yet that is:P
If you’re not familiar with any saint in particular I’ll recommend to start with a “immaculate Heart” medal or some other Blessed Virgin medals.
I myself bought a bunch of them about 6 months before entering the church and I thought I where the only one to get a crush/ fall hopelessly in love with Mama Mary even before converting.
Im so happy for your passion:)
If you have any questions about anything please feel free to send me a pm.
I hope you continue on in your journey into our Holy Church.
May God be with you forever and may Mary and the saint pray for you as you walk down the path our Lord has made ready for you.

Yours in Jesus and Mary

The miraculous medal is a wonderful sacramental. I also have medals of St. Benedict and St. Ignatius of Loyola.

five way medals are a good option it’s the miraculous medal, the sacred heart/scapular medal, st. christoper/st. anthony, st. joseph/infant of prague and the holy spirit in the middle sometimes it says I am catholic call a priest on the back but not always .

The wearing of a Crucifix & or Miraculous medal around your neck is an outward pronouncement of your Catholic faith. I myself wear both. I prefer a Crucifix to a Cross; because for me; it is more deeper reminder that Christ offered up His life for my redemption.

Of course there is no wrong answer here. My personal favourite is a Tau which one usually identifies with St Francis.

Eventually, St. Francis adopted the T as his own symbol. For him, it represented lifelong fidelity to the Passion of the Christ and a reminder to be an example of compassion for God’s people. from ww.franciscanalliance.org/hospitals/indianapolis/news/Pages/PressRelease.aspx?ARTICLE_ID=221

I used to wear one carved out of wood with a black leather string which I wore as a choker. It was beautiful and not ostentatious. It feels like a personal symbol because to many people this symbol would have not meaning.

Just an idea.

peace

Whatever you wear and whatever your taste, the Lord is looking at your heart and your Love for Him, so both will be beautiful on the day and hopefully always.

God Bless, Walk with the Lord.

Lord give me an insatiable thirst for you and then quench that thirst.
