Good morning brothers and sisters in Christ. I have been away from the Church for 10 years, but have recently listened to the call of the Holy Spirit to my heart and soul and have come home. I am now happy to be back at Mass and praying more Catholic prayers. I have been utilizing different Catholic podcasts and books and feel great.

The only thing I have lingering doubts about is the Mariology of the Church. I don’t know why I’m being such a doubting Thomas in my heart, as I felt what I know in my heart to be the presence of Mary when I was about 14 years old, at a time when I was very upset (an invisible hand caressing my brow and the scent of flowers after praying to her).

And yet I’ve been steeped in Protestant doctrine and anti-Catholicism for so long that my heart is a bit troubled when I pray to Mary or ponder her veneration in the Church.

I talked to my priest about this in Confession, and he recommend I pray to Our Lady and ask Her to remove my doubts. I have been doing this.

I recently also finished a Novena to the Holy Face of Jesus. I really enjoyed this Novena, and it’s the first one I’ve prayed. Now, taking the priest’s advice, I’d like to begin a Marian Novena. Is there one that would be best for me with my doubt?

Thanks!

If you are not doing so already, I’d recommend the rosary. It is a beautiful meditation on Jesus’ life is Scriptures, which is perfect for someone with a Protestant background. It comes with many promises, and many, many saints urged people to say a daily rosary.

Another devotion that goes hand in hand with the rosary is the First Five Saturdays. Here is a link for that devotion http://www.rosary-center.org/firstsat.htm.

God bless!

Thank you – I was praying the rosary daily for awhile a few weeks ago, and I did feel more at peace and connected then – to God and Mary. I think I’ll start again 🙂
