Do you realize that throughout the middle ages, the popes often had to spend their money to pay for things like the formation and pay of armies to defend Italy because of the incompitance of European monarchies? I don’t know the specifics of the funding of St. Peter’s, but it has been, and is still, open to all the “poor believers”, even those who are not Catholic. So if they did pay for it, they didn’t get nothing out of it.I like this one too:
