I’m not saying your wrong… but i also can’t help think of Jesus’ reply to Judas when he disparaged the costly oil that was used to anoint the Lord…
I’m not criticizing the Holy Father’s choices. But there is a good case to be made for beautiful vestments to honour the Lord.

I was referring to custom made Prada shoes, lace, elaborate vestments, etc…all custom made for Benedict. Love his theology… find his choice of vestments a little offensive… Can’t think of a time when I say the pope wearing pants.

I prefer Paul VI selling the tiara to Benedict returning to baroque style

Pope Benedict XVI did not wear Prada shoes. That was a slur. His single pair of red shoes were made by a shoe cobbler in Rome who had maintained Benedict’s shoes for years. He was honored to make them. He did have a pair of Prada sunglasses, which were a gift.
elaborate vestments
No, most are already in the Holy See’s inventory.
I prefer Paul VI selling the tiara
If you ever saw that tiara, you’d know why he sold it!

Francis dresses a great deal like Saint JPII, except that JPII did not wear black pants with his cassock and was not above wearing things like this beautiful red mantle.

Sure… but beauty is subjective… I find much more beauty in the noble simplicity of simpler stylings…

I do agree with you though that if the one believes that vestments are for the glory of God, then so be it. I tend to believe that too often the vestments are simply dress up for the so-called princes of the Church

Inventory needs to be maintained, replenished and otherwise managed… also, I find your statement that these are all sunk costs hard to believe … can you provide your source?

I think they all looked nice, but I tend to prefer Pope Francis’ outfits as being very simple.
However, I think his physique helps them along. Benedict and JPII were chubby and wouldn’t have looked as good in the very plain outfits.

Some of the vestments – particularly things like precious mitres go back hundreds of years. Hardware like pectoral crosses and the like, even further.

I had to like this post simply because John Paul the Second outdoors is one of the best things to have pictures of, ever.

I don’t really care, I highly doubt the first century Middle Eastern Pope cared either. I mean, it’s not that I don’t have a preference, but I don’t think the authority is derived from the clothes. I’m not saying that to be offensive, I’m just giving you my honest opinion. The pope wearing certain colour gloves and shoes is not Dogma, but some people act like that it is.

In reality I suspect you do, else you wouldn’t have made the effort to type out an entire paragraph…

Ah… a deflection.

Yes, I read that article some time ago… and found it unconvincing…you are right that there is beauty all around though

So… no examples then?

Plenty of examples of artworks that are objectively beautiful. Take a look around. The article speaks the truth. If you feel you can discount it out of hand, then you’re on your own.
