Which prayers to use?

i’ve noticed in my prayer books (i have a few ) and on prayer websites…that there are loads of prayers for a happy,holy peaceful death…(to go to heaven)

there are some to god, jesus,holy spirit, mary, joseph, guardian angel, angels and saints etc…

what confuses me is each prayer you read for a happy holy peaceful death seems to ask for different things than the other prayers…this makes me wonder which is the best to say…i don’t want to leave out something vital…or forget to ask for something…

can you make up your own prayer for a happy holy peaceful death…what sort of things should i be saying in this kind of prayer and what sort of things do i need to ask for…i don’t know where to start…but i do think it is worthwhile adopting this kind of prayer in to your daily routine to help prepare your soul…

can you also ask for a happy and merciful judgement after death…and no purgatory…or an easy purgatory…

do you know any prayers (to god,jesus,holy spirit,mary, joseph, guardian angel, holy angels and saints) for a happy holy peaceful death…it can be ones that are in books or on websites…or ones that you have composed yourself…if it is no trouble please would you post them as an answer and share them with us

Here is a prayer that I like to read in this very old prayer book I inherited from my mom after she died . The book is " Blessed Be God" copyright 1925. I like the way it is written, very old beautiful style that one does not see very much. There are prayers from the saints, popes, cardinals, and prayers for everything one would need.

“O Lord, support us, all the day long of this troublous life, until the shadows lengthen and evening comes and the busy world is hushed and the fever of life is over and our work is done. Then of Thy great mercy grant us a safe lodging and a holy rest and peace at the last, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.”

As I’m sure you know, God is All-Knowing and Understanding beyond our comprehension. He knows what you are praying for, whether or not you say the words. He knows you want all that good “vital” stuff. Be at peace; the Lord knows what you need and will work His will. Pray, trust, hope, believe.
 
I cannot tell from your post whether this is a mere intention you would like to pray for, or whether death concerns you. However, I first suggest that you talk to our Lord and tell him what your feelings are, and ask Him to be with you always, but especially at the hour of your death so that He may pour out His peace and divine mercy on your soul. If you are looking for a prayer for mercy, I suggest the divine mercy chaplet (fairly easy to memorize after a few times). Just tell the Lord what is in your heart though. You do not need someone elses words. Just remember in the end, the best prayer for everything is “Not mine, but Your will be done.”
 
Heres one I made up:

Heavenly Father,please take us to Heaven.We endevour to keep your holy Laws, and we strive to do your Will.We love and adore you.We greatly look forward to the day when we shall ascend into the realms of Glory, and come face to face with your divine Son.May the Holy Spirit guide and protect us, may our Guardian Angel watch over us, may the Blessed virgin Mary pray for us, and may the good saints intercede for us.Please bring us to Heaven to live with you in your wondrous Kingdom, O, God, we love you, now and forever, Amen and selah.
 
Commendation
Jesus, Mary & Joseph I give you my heart and my soul.
Jesus, Mary & Joseph, assist me in my last agony. Jesus, Mary & Joseph, may I breathe forth my soul in peace with you.

Act of Resignation
O Lord, my God, whatever manner of death is pleasing to you, with all its anguish, pains and sorrows, I now accept from your hand with resigned and willing spirit.

On going to bed
Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit: Lord Jesus, receive my soul. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ crucified, I lay me down to rest. Bless me, O Lord, and defend me; preserving me from a sudden and unprovided death and from all dangers, and bring me to life everlasting with you.
 
This one is from the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart an old book Fr Larkin.
Prayer at the hour of Death
When the Angels of the Sanctuary are blessing Thee in the most Holy Host and I am in my agony, may their praises be mine…Lord, remember then this poor servant of Thy Divine Heart.
When loving souls on earth acclaim Thee, and I am in my agony, may their compassion and their tears be mine … Remember then this prodigal conquered by Thy Divine Heart! When priests, virgins of the temple, and Thine apostles proclaim Thee their Sovereign, preach Thee to souls, and enthrone Thee in the world, and I am in my agony, let their zeal and their ardour be mine… Remember then the apostle of Thy Divine Heart!
When Thy Church, praying and lamenting before the altar is with Thee redeeming the guilty world, and I am in my agony, her sacrifice and prayer will be mine… Remember then the faithful friend of Thy Divine Heart! When during the Holy Hour Thy chosen souls, by loving, suffering and atoning make Thee forget perfidy and betrayals, and I am in my agony, their intimacy with Thee and their consolations will be mine… Remember then this altar and this victim of Thy Divine Heart!

**LITANY FOR A HAPPY DEATH **
100 days indulgence once a day, Plenary indulgence if said each day for a month.
O Lord Jesus, God of goodness and Father of mercies, I draw nigh to Thee with a contrite and humble heart; to Thee I recommend the last hour of my life, and the judgement which awaits me afterwards.
When my feet, benumbed with death, shall admonish me that my mortal course is drawing to an end, Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.
When my hands cold and trembling, shall no longer be able to clasp the crucifix, and against my will, shall let it fall on my bed of suffering, Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.
When mine eyes, dim and troubled at the approach of death, shall fix themselves on Thee, my last and only support, Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.
When my lips, pale and trembling, shall pronounce for the last time Thine adorable name, Merciful Jesus, have mercy on me.

THREE BEAUTIFUL PRAYERS FOR THE DYING
Which are very useful to a dying person, and should be prayed often as an act of mercy.There once was a Pope in Rome who was surrounded by many sins.The Lord God struck him with a fatal illness.When he saw that he was dying he summoned Cardinals, Bishops and learned persons and said to them:“My dear friends!What comfort can you give me now that I must die, and when I deserve eternal damnation for my sins?”No one answered him. One of them, a pious curate named John, said: “Father, why do you doubt the Mercy of God?” The Pope replied: “What comfort can you give me now that I must die and fear that I’ll be damned for my sins?” John replied: “I’ll read three prayers over you;I hope, you’ll be comforted and that you’ll obtain Mercy from God.”The Pope was unable to say more. The curate and all those present knelt and said an Our Father, then the following prayers:
Prayer 1
Lord Jesus Christ! Thou Son of God and Son of the Virgin Mary, God and Man, Thou who in fear sweated blood for us on the Mount of Olives in order to bring peace, and to offer Thy Most Holy Death to God Thy Heavenly Father for the salvation of this dying person… If it be, however, that by his sins he merits eternal damnation, then may it be deflected from him. This, O Eternal Father through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Dear Son, Who liveth and reigneth in union with The Holy Spirit now and forever. Amen.
Prayer 2
Lord Jesus Christ! Thou who meekly died on the trunk of the Cross for us, submitting Thy Will completely to Thy Heavenly Father in order to bring peace and to offer Thy most Holy Death to Thy Heavenly Father in order to free…(this person)…and to hide from him what he has earned with his sins; grant this O Eternal Father! Through Our Lord Jesus Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in union with the Holy Spirit now and forever. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ! Thou Who remained silent to speak through the mouths of the Prophets; I have drawn Thee to me through Eternal Love, which love drew Thee from Heaven into the body of the Virgin, which love drew Thee from the body of the Virgin into the valley of this needful world, which Love kept Thee 33 years in this world, and as a sign of Great Love, Thou hast given Thy drink, as a sign of great love, Thou has consented to be a prisoner and to be led from one judge to another and as a sign of great love Thou has consented to be condemned to death, and hast consented to die and to be buried and truly rise, and appeared to Thy Holy Mother and all the Holy Apostles, and as a sign of great love Thou hast ascended, under Thy own strength and power, and sitteth at the right hand of God Thy heavenly Father, and Thou has sent Thy Holy Spirit into the heart of Thy Apostles and the hearts of all who hope and believe in Thee. Through Thy sign of Eternal love, open heaven today and take this dying person… and all his sins into the realm of Thy Heavenly Father, that he may reign with Thee now and forever. Amen.
Meanwhile the Pope died. The curate persevered to the third hour, then the Pope appeared to him in body and comforting him; his countenance as brilliant as the sun, his clothes as white as snow, and he said: “My dear brother! Whereas I was supposed to be a child of damnation I’ve become a child of happiness. As you recited the first prayer many of my sins fell from me as rain from Heaven, and as you recited the second Prayer I was purified, as a goldsmith purifies gold in a hot fire. I was still further purified as you recited the third prayer. Then I saw Heaven open and the Lord Jesus standing on the Right Hand of God the Father who said to me: “Come, all thy sins are forgiven thee, you’ll be and remain in the realm of My Father forever. Amen!”
With these words my soul separated from my body and the angels of God led it to Eternal Joy.
As the curate heard this he said: “O Holy Father! I can’t tell these things to anyone, for they won’t believe me.” Then the Pope said: “Truly I tell thee, the Angel of God stands with me and has written the prayers in letters of gold for the consolement of all sinners. If a person had committed all the sins in the world, but that the three prayers shall have been read (over him) at his end (death), all his sins wil be forgiven him, even though his soul was supposed to suffer until the Last Judgment, it will be redeemed (freed). The person who hears them read, he won’t die an unhappy death also in whose house they will be read. Therefore take these prayers and carry them into St. Peter’s Basilica and lay them in the Chapel named the Assumption of Mary, for certain consolation. The person who will be near death, who reads them or hears them read gains 400 years indulgence for the days he was supposed to suffer in Purgatory because of his guilt. Also who reads this prayer or hears it read, the hour of his death shall be revealed to him. Amen!
