I know that the EF uses the 1962 missal, but if you had your choice, which edition of the Roman Missal would you prefer to use for the Latin Mass?

1970 Pope Paul VI
1962 Pope John XXIII
1955 Pope Pius XII
1920 Pope Pius X
1884 Pope Leo XIII

What particular advantages do you see for using Leo XIII’s missal?

Well, if one wants to make sure there is no modernism (presumably the reason for using earlier missals) then Leo XIII would seem to be the place to go for a Missal. Unfortunately there don’t seem to be any chapels offering the mass of Leo XIII around here.

The Pius X missal re arranged feasts and dropped certain ones that were of historic importance. The Pius Missal was good though, perhaps if feasts that were lost werejust reincorporated it would be better though : )

Wow, so over 77% of people would prefer to use an earlier Missal then the 1962. How important is this?

I’m confused. The title of the thread is “Which Pre-Vatican II Missal Is Best?” Why then is the Novus Ordo an option for the poll? BTW, I went with the second option. Pope John’s Missal works just fine.

What examples of modernism can you cite in the Pius X missal?
