You’re not very sorry or you wouldn’t post it.Sorry to beat a dead horse, but there have been Anglicans in the US since the American Revolution. They are and were called Episcopalians.

A Great post A+I drink blood at mass. But it is holy blood, Jesus’.
Short answer is they caved to prohibition. When it came down to peer pressure and Government restrictions they didnt hold up to what the Bible said over what the world was telling them.I’m curious what the justification for Changing the forumla implemented by Christ is. On the day of the last supper he consecrated wheat bread (we can debate levened or not) and wine, transforming him into his blood and body (which is what I also comsume, another +1 for the previous post).
Even if you want to subscribe to the “just a symbol” theology, Christ used wine and wheat bread.
Thanks Bill, I had to add my two cents!A Great post A+
but what was it before the priest does the transtubawadiacallit? Are you Protestant then?![]()
All Catholic Churches use wine. There is a type of “grape juice” that is available to the alcoholic, as the priest is a man and has problems with addiction just like me and you.but what was it before the priest does the transtubawadiacallit?
I attended a nondenom as a child ;grape juice. a pentecostal; grape juice and a baptist; grape juice.
So if a Catholic is an alcoholic does he drink the wine? I cant, even a small amount would trigger my alcoholism.
H1N1 ? Does everyone drink from the same cup? I am really going to attend a mass. every weekend something comes up so I miss it.All Catholic Churches use wine. I don’t remember the name of it but it is a fermented grape juice with no alcohol content, someone here can come up with the name as it escapes me now.
One other thought, it is not required that a communicant receive both species of the Eucharist. Many do not partake of the Saving Cup because of the H1N1 scare or other reason, I personally will never walk past a cup of my Saviors Blood without partaking.
But it is your choice.
It’s a non-denominational Evangelical church, Tabernacle Christian Church, in CT.May I ask what Church you attend?
Yes, it is a community cup! At my home parish there are four cup ministers and all drink from the four cups.H1N1 ? Does everyone drink from the same cup? I am really going to attend a mass. every weekend something comes up so I miss it.
Why? not that I want to go far off topic.Yes, it is a community cup! At my home parish there are four cup ministers and all drink from the four cups.
This is important.
It’s the tradition which started with Christ at the last supper; there weren’t tiny little cups to put grape juice in. According to what can be determined from scripture and tradition wine was used at the institution of the Eucharistic and it was consumed from one cup, not each to their own. “…He took the cup, gave thanks then gave it to His disciples and said, take and drink.”Why? not that I want to go far off topic.
That’s interesting. I know some IF Baptists, and they are TOTAL teetotalers, in that they believe that alcohol is evil, and when the Bible says “wine”, it means “new wine”, which they insist was unfermented, basically grape juice. I’ve found the IF Baptists way more “hard core” than the S. Baptists.Independent Fundamental Baptists for the most part use wine. Southern Baptists generally use grape juice.
One thing I never understood. Southern Baptists insist on baptizing by immersion because that is the way it was done in the New Testament. They want to conform their practices exactly with the New Testament church. However, they will use grape juice for their communion service, which is not the way it was done in the New Testament church. Can anyone explain this contradiction?
The basic rule is that distinctives become very important, really much more important than they would be originally or theologically. Distinctives have a habit of becoming the marks of the church in people’s minds.Independent Fundamental Baptists for the most part use wine. Southern Baptists generally use grape juice.

new wine is wine that is not yet fermented but it was still considered wine. If the Catholic church offers grape juice to the alcoholic then the pope must not be to concerned about its substitution. I take no issue with tradition, I think its very important to some people, but even you draw a line in how far you take it. the disciples wore tunics and sandals but you where modern clothes. they most likely were laying around a low table and passed the cup around, is that how you do it?. I doubt they all used one cup as some were getting drunk. But if that is your tradition and it brings you closer to Christ then that is a beautiful thing! I dont mind telling you that I wish we used something better for the bread. they are these little tiny things that take the symbolism to extreme.Independent Fundamental Baptists for the most part use wine. I am an alcoholic/junky so I cant have wine at all but the Bible is very clear that there is only a prohibition on drunkeness not on alcohol. enjoy your wine! I would if I could. That’s interesting.
