Everybody will probably have his or her own way of answering that question; maybe different answers on different days.

One simple way of measuring the importance of a Psalm: How frequently is it used by the Church in her Liturgy?

Here’s the Top 25 for EF/TLM Proper of the Season.

Example: Psalm 119 (RSV) is used 25 times, with a total of 56 verses read, including repetitions.

Thanks for these great links! I need to study the one about the frequency of use. Yes I think Psalms fulfill different purposes for all of us. I do like 2, 16, 19, 22, 24,and 68 as they tell of the upcoming Messiah in them.

Today it’s Psalm 43 (New International Version)

Psalm 43

1[a] Vindicate me, O God,
and plead my cause against an ungodly nation;
rescue me from deceitful and wicked men.

2 You are God my stronghold.
Why have you rejected me?
Why must I go about mourning,
oppressed by the enemy?

3 Send forth your light and your truth,
let them guide me;
let them bring me to your holy mountain,
to the place where you dwell.

4 Then will I go to the altar of God,
to God, my joy and my delight.
I will praise you with the harp,
O God, my God.

5 Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

Psalm 43

1[a] Vindicate me, O God,…
As you probably know, that Psalm is part of the so-called Prayers at the Foot of the Altar before EF/TLM: Judica me, Deus, . . .. I really love it. I guess all EF/TLM folk come to love it. Same with RSV 116, which the Priest celebrant says before receiving the Precious Blood: Quid retribuam Domino . . ….

And, of course, that’s just one good reason why my Proper of the Season counting methodology is, um, incomplete: Shouldn’t the Psalms that are part of every Mass (RSV 43, 26 & 116) be considered more important than the ones that are cited incidentally or in passing, so to speak?

Yea, I was sorry that RSV 2 didn’t make the list. It is used 4 times, though.
