Neither… One denys the divinity of Jesus Christ and the Other follows a false prophet

If those supossed “gold plates” turned up somewhere Mormonism might have more weight to it… But archeology hasn’t picked up anything that supports the book of Mormon or the hidden golden plates…Mormonsim isn’t universal, one of the signs of the true church, since its only situated mostly in utah… Jesus said his word would spread to the ends of the earth… and the Catholic Church is the only church that has truely done that…

Dear Alweather-
Did you ever figure out which one was better?
LOL, no, but I take the concensus of our ex-Mormon brothers and sisters, plus my first-hand knowledge of knowing quite a few Mormons thru my association with my beloved ex-Mormon fiance, that to be a Mormon is better than being a Jehovah’s Witness. Unfortunately, my experience with JWs is limited to the occasional knock at the door, which I entertain politely and firmly. My experience with Mormons is quite a bit more extensive. Based on my experience, I’ve learned that Mormons are some of the very best people on Earth. Polite, honest, hard-working, kind, patriotic, loving, well, I could go on and on. Some of the things I read hereabouts regarding JWs leads me to believe that JWs are less than that. But, again, my personal experience of JWs is just about zero, so I will withhold any further comment.

Your personal bias notwithstanding, is there more or less an insult to Christ wtih either?
Sorry- You really got me wrong.
Heretic is a word I never used.
Heresy is a word I use here for both.
Your denial of the facts due to your personal interelationships says nothing to me.

As I said, I’m not qualified to make such a judgement as to the relativity of the two religions. I don’t know enough about either of them, and as far as I can remember, have not made such a claim that I do. What I have stated is that the ecclesiastical apparatus of the Catholic Church is qualified to make such judgements, and does, on a technical level far above my intellectual capability, and probably yours as well.

What are you trying to argue, exactly? That all heresies are equal? That all insults to Christ are equal? Seems like a fishy argument to me.

However, regarding one difference between JWs and Mormons, I have not known Mormons to be liars, but I have noticed in several short conversations with JWs on and about this forum that they tend to prevaricate, and I politely direct your attention to recent conversation YOU’VE had with one BibleSteve to illustrate that idea. Whether this indicates a superiority of Mormon teaching over JW teachings, I don’t know, but I suspect so.

I was a JW for 34 yrs and a LDS for almost 2 yrs. I don’t think the morality or quality of the people that these two cults attract has much to do with their teachings—the teachings come later–the people come first. I think the Mormons attract a higher caliber of people in general. A study done some 15-20 years ago in Australian showed that JWs had more than 4 times the number of mentally unstable people in its ranks than in the general population if I remember correctly. It was determined by this study that the teachings contributed to psychiatric breaks in susceptible people and people who were on the fringes of society, usually where those who are vulnerable and suffer with mental illnesses are, were attracted to the rigidity and exclusivity of JWs. JWs are absolutely anti-government whereas Mormons are patriotic and while they do draw the line at religion they are very concerned and active citizens.
One of the main differences in the morals and character of the two, IMHO is that Mormons value education and JWs hold it in contempt with the rest of the demonized world. JWs are isolationists in their communities and socially retarded in their interpersonal growth patterns, Mormons are not–they are very civic minded.
So if you are comparing the teachings–one is as bad as the other, but if you are comparing the rank-and-file members I do believe Mormons are better citizens, better educated, more morally responsible and have higher quality of character in general than JWs.

Once again I am stating a fact, either sect you mention, is only that. No difference between them really, other than their own little mad made differences.

Why substitute THE REAL THING, for a lie.

Peace be with you.

You obviously have not known many Mormons. They will, without batting an eye, intentionally misrepresent their beliefs and yours in order to have you think they are just regular Christians like everyone else. If they started out telling people what they teach behind closed doors, they would never get to lesson #2. They know that, so they lie. Just read through some of the Mormon threads here. They deny the historic teachings of their church, even when presented with consistent quotes from their prophets and official church publications, because they know those teachings are repugnant to non-Mormons.

They will also bring the missionaries to teach your children at their house instead of yours so that you won’t find out. This kind of deception is SOP for Mormons.

Lord have mercy,
Paul

Amen and goonight to this thread.

“proving” either heresy over the other to have value is a ridiculous proposition.

Good point. So we’re all agreed, then? The REAL answer is (ready?) JUDAISM!
