Which should I obey: the Bible or the Catholic Church

Brendan, I hope this person answers you because I asked him what he believes with regards to salvation and he has not responded. Also he seems to think that we (Catholics) dont read the bible and all these verses are knew to us.

I’m wondering exactly what mich was trying to say here.

The Catholic Church certainly recognizes all Scripture as being the inspired Word of God ( see Dei Verbum - Vatican II)

And we certainly do use it for training in righteousness and to equip us for good works.

Does he\she really think we dont?

The Truth of the matter is, when you obey the Catholic Church you are by default ARE obeying scriptures.

The official teachings of the Catholic Church NEVER EVER confilcts with scriptures. BEFORE any doctrine is proclaimed, hundreds of scriptural scholars research every passage possible to make sure that the doctrine does NOT contradict scriptures.

The folks who pull one or two passages out of context and try to refute official Church teachings with them just don’t have a clue on what thoses passges really mean or what they really refer to.
Rest assured that every single passage has been researched completely by hundreds of theologians many times over. And IF the Catholic Church says we are saved by BOTH Faith and works, we are indeed saved by BOTH.

These faith only, born agains may be in for a rude awakening especially if they decide that they have no obligations to God and to the poor other than paying some lip service to proclaining that they believe in Jesus.

Jesus judges everyone by their actions. Rest assured that anyone who ignores the poor or oppressed, will be forgotten by Christ. Jesus knows His own by what they do, NOT just what they say.

It’s fool’s gold to rely on just saying “I believe in Jesus” and not DO anything about it. Jesus says, “Anyone who DOES the will of My Father is my brother”. IF all you do is talk, and you DO nothing, you’re toast !
