:thumbsup:Ditto to the tenth power.
You and Mulligan2 may be correct that contraception will become more accepted, more prevalent, more affordable, more efficient, perhaps even required by the government—as the HHS even now wishes to impose it as a required coverage.

With a depopulation spiral imminent in Western countries and becoming a problem in the rest of the world, more efficiency in preventing the next generation of human beings does not bode well for the global economy or for civilization. And the fact that the contraceptive mentality tends toward the destruction of marriage and family means that the continuing collapse of family structure, which is the bedrock of civilization, will have its effect on the whole of society, for the worse.

I don’t expect to convince you. The results of the current social experiment will have to play out in history. And if necessary, we will have to rebuild from scratch.

Hi folks!

I’ve been an inactive mewmber for so long, but I’m really overjoyed to be taking part again.
I’m trying just to say hello but can’t find the option to do so.
In any case, apologies I haven’t read this thread yet, but the social issues that most speak to me are: poverty, abortion, and sickness and loneliness. All plagues of our time I believe.

I have been chronically ill for two years. I’m 29. And just rewcently have been diagnosed with a 3rd major life-time illness. Ulcerative colitis. Affects the large intewstine.

Please pray for my recovery - I have just cvome out of hospital.

And please pray for good health and a full healing. From everything.

I read recently in my local catholic bulletrin that if one wants to make a difference to the social issues - “think globalluy - act locally” I find that really helps. Do what u can for those around you. Also St Catherine of Sienna talks about walking on the two feet of love. They are love of God - prayer - and love of neighbour - action in social justice. Pope Francios immediately comes to mind.

So in order to walk ands not hop on one foot it is crucial to give attention to botrh prayer and good works. Start small.

Hhoep this helps.

Please pray for me!

Emma

De-humanization through contraception, sterilization, abortion, assisted suicide. Each human person is made in the image and likeness of God and called into being as an unrepeatable expression of His love. The elements that take a human life are the global, massive social issue of our world. We are becoming barbaric. Look at what passes for “entertainment” today. We are not too far off from calling the killing of other human beings entertainment. Think of the reason for the erection of the Coliseum. Look at all the movies being made today, the genre of horror is at an all time high. Fascination of our youth with evil is astonishing. the pagan culture or “popular societal ‘choices’” like abortion and recently popular euthanasia now legal in several states and you can clearly see where all this is headed.
It is spiritual warfare being played out, The world, owned by Satan opposed by the Catholic church. We know Jesus wins in the end. Meanwhile the human suffering and indignities continue to escalate.

The far right activists. They are leading so many to perdition. Especially our youth.

As a white man who has recently moved in to a predominantly black neighborhood, with all of the, “You’re raising your baby where?!” comments from associates, I am currently very poignantly aware of how messed up white-black racial relations still are in America. No idea what to do about this though.

As far as activity, I am a volunteer fireman, work full-time and have a not quite two year old in the house. Doesn’t leave much time for too much else.

My first thought upon reading the OP was contraception and abortion.

Then I read:
Lost soul’s going to hell.
👍

Any issue, “social” or otherwise, takes a back seat to this.
THERE IS NOTHING MORE IMPORTANT THAN OPPOSING ANY SOCIAL ISSUE THAT LEADS SOULS AWAY FROM GOD AND ENCOURAGES THEM TO FOLLOW THE PATH THAT LEADS TO HELL.

The desperately poor and the filthy rich all have a chance of going to heaven. If they are faithful Catholics their chances improve. We need to think along these lines: How can I/we help others to avoid grave evil, and especially mortal sin?

We must meditate and pray on all these important issues that have been brought up. We need to find a way to do our part, especially to help each other to achieve heaven. Eternal life with God is “what it’s all about”.

Contraception!

Cardinal Patrick Hayes in a Christmas pastoral letter sent to his people in New York to be read from the pulpit on Sunday December 18, 1921:

“Heinous is the sin committed against the creative act of God, Who through the marriage contract invites man and woman to co-operate with Him in the propagation of the human family. To take life after its inception is a horrible crime; but to prevent human life the Creator is about to bring into being is satanic. In the first instance, the body is killed, while the soul lives on: in the latter, not only a body but an immortal soul is denied existence in time and in eternity. It has been reserved to our day to see advocated the legalizing of such a diabolical thing.”

The way the liberal media tempts the unsuspecting poor and ignorant into liberal lifestyles which leads to more dependency on innocent taxpayers, yet people keep voting to increase the cycle. “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man how to fish and he eats for a lifetime.” Some people still believe that giving more fish is going to fix the problems, as “the enlightened” believe that teaching people how to fish is too judgmental. Dumbing down, dumbing down.

The widening gap between CEOs and workers. Unless he/she started the company, no CEO deserves the kind of pay he/she is getting. Neither do the overpaid movie stars and professional sports team members.
Immigration - We do not have to take in all the other countries criminals that sneak into this country illegally. Even in my area, the increase in illegals have resulted in more gangs, drug cartel activity and criminals. It’s fact, not speculation.

Contraception. Because contraception has led directly to the delinking of marriage from procreation and children. It has led to the deconstruction of the family, which had been the bedrock of our civilization. The crumbling of that bedrock leads to abortion, fatherless children, gay marriage, social chaos, and moral bankruptcy among many groups, the effect of which will tend to lead us back into barbarism.
This! Birth control! and the drug companies and doctors not telling women (and men) the truth that the pill, implants and iuds cause a woman’s body to reject a fertilized egg such and such a percentage of the time. In the olden days 60s and 70s it was 2-10 percent, now it is much higher because they use a lower dose of hormones which lets more eggs get fertilized. The women and men are thinking wow this just keep the eggs and sperm from meeting up… NO, not always. And they are aborting their children without even realizing it… it is so connected to abortion. It really is the same thing.

No contest.

Marriage. Healthy, intact marriages and the traditional family headed by a man and a woman, for life, are the building blocks of a healthy, productive, and moral society.

The trend toward non-marriage and faux versions of it, and the impatience people have with stability in relationships - not to mention their narcissistic expectations they bring to marriage, & the focus on pleasure rather than sacrifice, threaten order and personal peace in society, which in turn enables crime, violence, and self-medication through drugs, violence, obsessive recreation, and more.

A lot of unhappy people out there, inviting incarceration or other forms of dysfunction, not to mention inviting reliance on the government as a “family.”

Social issue—Al Sharpton! 😃 Seriously, the crime/homicide rate in Chicago and the problems in Detroit. I know there are bigger issues, but those hit me personally.

Good sense of humor, there, R_M.

For me, he is just too amusing to take seriously. 😃

I know what you mean about the crime. However, keep in mind that the vast majority of criminals are the products of broken or dysfunctional homes. (My point exactly. :))

Yes, and I agree with your previous post. 👍 Furthermore, the Church is the shining light for people in these communities. Thank God for that!

“may mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance.” Jude 1:2

Which social issue(or issues) speaks out? And if any which ones are you most actively involved in?

Peace and Love through Him
Abuse of the Sacraments which arise mostly out of poor catechetical formation and rejection of Church teachings. I am involved in the Sacramental preparation programme of my Parish particularly Baptism and Holy Matrimony. Those who are prepared well for Holy Matrimony will live up to the promises they give at Baptism where great emphasis is attached to the removal of Original Sin. If we are to pass on our faith to our children, I believe that we must focus on the catechetical formation of the parents. They cannot pass on what they do not know.

Abortion and care of the elderly. I am active on both fronts. In the former, I support SPUC and 40 Days for Life. In the latter, I and many others in my Parish, offer practical help and general support to ensure that those who live alone do not feel neglected.

The Church as a compassionate NGO. While I am a generous donor, I am also a conscientious giver.

All of the above relates fundamentally to Catholicity which has an impact on wider social issues.
