Which time do you prefer to attend Mass?

My parish only offers a Saturday evening Vigil Mass at 5.30PM and Sunday mornings at 11am then that’s it. I work Saturdays til late so I sadly look exhausted on the Sunday but I love starting my day off by going to Mass!! However, like yesterday, I slept in for Mass so I had to go to a Sunday evening Mass in a nearby parish.

We usually attend the Saturday vigil Mass, but we also like to go to the earliest Mass on Saturday’s.

I just came into full communion with the Church last Easter Vigil. Because our RCIA sessions were held at 9:15 AM on Sundays, attending the 8:00 AM Mass immediately before each session best fit the schedule.

I remember spending the whole time throughout RCIA looking forward to the first Sunday after Easter, so I could sleep a little later and attend a later Mass. So needless to say, the weekend after Easter, there I was…

…right back at the 8:00 AM Mass. It kind of just became my personal “right time” for Mass.

I go to the 12:30 pm Mass on Sundays since that is the time of the Traditional Latin Mass; however, I prefer the morning Masses. I try to avoid the vigil Masses since, though they fulfill the obligation, it feels like something is missing on Sunday.

I like the idea of Sunday evening Mass. I think this is something parishes should look into.

I prefer Sunday evening masses for my family because my child is more settled in the evening mass. There’s less children there to distract him. My son has had more time during the day to play and get his energy out. During the morning masses my child seems to be more wound up. When I take him to the evening mass, he seems to sit better for a longer period of time

Well, if I had a choice - that is, if I wasn’t an organist and choir director at two parishes - I would prefer to go the earlier the better, on Sunday. But I have to do 5pm Saturday, 8am Sunday on occasion, 9am Sunday on occasion, 11am every Sunday, and 6am occasionally (Latin Mass) as well. So at least 3 per weekend and up to 5. I guess that’s good preparation for if I ever become a priest. 🙂

My parish has a 5:30 Mass on Saturday evenings and an 8 and 11 am Mass on Sunday mornings. I normally attend the 8 am Mass because it starts off my day, and the 11 am is sometimes too late; I like going early and ending early and having the rest of my day to myself. Sunday is usually my only day to sleep in, but I like getting up early, going to Mass, and then coming home and relaxing.

A parish near me has a 6 am Mass on Sundays, and sometimes, I attend that Mass. There is no music, so it usually runs for about 30-40 minutes.

So, I guess I can say that I prefer earlier morning Masses over the later ones.
5 pm on Saturday.

I prefer the Saturday Vigil Mass if I can go then. I’m not an early morning person and at our parish the morning Mass is early and they only offer one time.

One thing I find about the early morning Sunday Masses is that they are little quieter, and I can concentrate better. The parish closest to my home does a reverent Mass at 7:30 am, and often sings Latin Hymms. I go to that sometimes. The parish I normally attend (and where I am registered) has a 9:00 a.m. Mass that I like to attend, and the same parish also has a bilingual Mass at 12:30 p.m. that I attend every few weeks (hablar espanol pequeno, and it helped me learn oraciones en espanol). Another reason I like the bilingual Mass is I’ve made a few Hispanic friends there - most of them dress well and take their faith seriously (it’s not a big show).

Honestly, at both these parishes, I don’t like to attend either the 10:30 am Mass or the 10:45 a.m. Masses on Sunday. I find both of them to be crowded, with people coming in late, lackadaisical attitudes, people parking down the street, and at the parish with a 10:45 am Mass, at least 20% dash to the parking lot after communion, even though the pastor has done his best to put a stop to this.

I’ll go to Saturday vigil if I know I am getting a reverent Mass (the parish close to me does a well done Mass at 5:00 p.m.), or if I have to go out of town or something Sunday morning. I know quite a few CCD teachers who attend either the Saturday night vigil Mass (or will attend a Sunday evening Mass) because they teach CCD on Sunday mornings, and find it difficult to make the Sunday morning Mass due to lesson plans, etc. Another thing I encourage singles’ to do is schedule a Saturday night date where the two of you can start your date with Mass - I’ve done this a few times myself, and then you can go out to dinner or something.

Like some of the other posters, I had a job years ago where I would work 10-12 hour days six days a week. Sunday was my only day off, so I would oftentimes go to a Sunday evening Mass. In Dallas and Fort Worth, there are many parishes that have a later Mass at 5:00 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. There’s even one parish that has a 7:30 p.m. Mass, and the University of Dallas has a 7:00 p.m. Mass during the school year. (It’s fairly common for some Catholic student centers to do a Sunday night Mass at 5:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m., or even 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m.) Nothing wrong with that, you meet your Sunday obligation.

I prefer to either go to the 5pm on Saturday or the 12pm mass on Sunday.

I’m just lazy. I don’t like getting up in the morning.

My bathroom chores take a lot of time in the morning 😊 …so I sometimes can’t make 10:30AM on Sunday but I get to 11AM at another parish.

For a bit of time, my wife and I preferred the 7:30 am Mass. We enjoyed being around fewer people, or at least I did, because it helped me to focus a bit more.

But these days, we usually attend the 9 am Mass. This Mass is our parish’s most “solemn,” and frankly, the music is usually quite wonderful. Our other Masses, aside from the 7:30, have incorporated forms of music I don’t at all care for.

Regarding children at Mass: thankfully, our parish’s little ones don’t go overboard, at least not at the Masses that I attend. I love hearing babies and children at Mass. 🙂
We like the Saturday Vigil Mass. I’m a lector and sometimes I have to read at the 8 Am Mass on Sunday, and it’s difficult for me to get up that early. Sometimes we attend a TLM afternoon Sunday Mass at a nearby parish or a Sunday 5pm Mass at another parish. The priest that celebrates this does a lot of chanting and there’s minimum singing.

I’ve found that the nice thing about the early Mass is the quiet beforehand. I like to get to there about a half-hour before Mass starts. Because it’s the first Mass of the morning, you don’t have the din of people filing out from the previous Mass or stragglers chatting in the aisles to distract you. It’s just a nice, peaceful, still time where you can just be with the Lord.

That, and everyone is usually still sleepy to conjure up any chatter. 😃

This time of year, with my schedule, I’m going to the vigil Mass (4 P.M.).

Part of it is a selfish reason; one of my Sunday morning traditions is the EWTN Mass, which is on free radio in my town.

If I do go on Sunday morning, I tend to prefer the first Mass (7:30 A.M.) partly because it’s the “no frills” Mass with no music and I find that that makes it easier to concentrate.
