Which To Live With, Muslims or Buddhists?

There have been several threads that discuss the religion of Islam (Muslims) and some discuss the Buddhists.

If you had to go abroad and live in an Eastern or Middle Eastern nation which would you chose?
A. A Muslim nation
B, A Buddhist nation

Do you know why?..Why?

Hi Exporter. If I had a choice I would chose a Buddhist nation because they seem to be more peaceful than a muslim nation. 😉 God Bless
 
Neither-I would start a Catholic Church offering both the Novus Ordo and the Traditional Latin Mass and convert them all to Catholicism!

I am a Buddhist, but I have never been to a Buddhist country. I have been to some Muslim countries on holidays - Egypt, Jordan and Turkey. I would have no problem living in any of those three, at least in the parts I visited. I cannot make a choice since I do not have any real experience of a Buddhist country.

Hey Bulldog Catholic,

Are you a reletive of the Great Jesuit Saint …St. Francis Xavier?
He went to India and some other SouthEast Asian countries and was perched on a little island , from which he could see China when he died. He was realy to “attack China” and that in the days of the sailing ships. There was a missionary!
 
Buddhists aren’t known for blowing people up. I think that makes my decision for me…
 
Aren’t well known for it, but they’ve done it. Ask the Japanese Catholics about their history.

In the Middle East you are more likely to find a firmly rooted Christian community to latch onto, while in a Buddhist country in Asia you are less likely to feel any kind of religious pressure. I’ve never been to a Muslim country, but I would love to visit some of our ancient churches in the Middle East, plus my family originates from that region. I’ve been to Buddhist countries, and I’ll say that you won’t feel religion of any kind being pushed in your face in many of them, though the people are often devout in their own ways. I think both are equally safe, espescially since many Buddhist countries have a very militant Muslim subset.
 
What is the purpose may I ask of this discussion-to be an Idol worshipper or be a member of a faith that desecrates our Lord in the Koran. This idea of getting to know other faiths and ecumenism is a bit crazy. As a Catholic-can everyone here recite, as you are supposed to before you go in and make your confession as part of your examination of conscience:

The 10 Commandments
The Six commandments of the church
The Seven deadly sins and opposite virtues
The four sins which cry to heaven for vengence (willful murder, the sin of sodom, oppression of the poor, defrauding a laborer of earned wages)
The seven spiritual works of mercy
The seven corporal works of mercy

People are reading and saying-Examination of conscience? Sin? No, all we hear now is about Love

Learn your own faith before you go wandering where you need not go.

This string should be locked and closed off.

I think the purpose has been made clear enough. It says:

Speaking for myself, I have met some very fine people from both of these groups. I can recall only one who was intolerant.

I’d appreciate seeing some quotes from the Koran to back up your accusation.

I don’t think you’ll find anything to compare with this in the Koran which, so far as I know, exhibits great respect for Christ.
 
There has been recent persecution of Christians by Buddhists in Bhutan. The most recent Crisis magazine had an article about Buddhist violence against Christians.
 
The Koran denies that Jesus is the Son of God, yet it does support the Immaculate Conception. Denying the divinity of Christ is heresy.

Some appear to have misconstrued this question, the question said if you had a choice of the two where would you go, not would you convert!

From what I see Islam is still as intolerant as their ancestors, many ancient Christians (Catholics in fact) where converted to Islam by the sword when Islam burst out of Arabia, into the middle east and accross Africa ending up in Spain and the borders of Hungary (with the loss of most of thethe Byzantine Christians). Stories of disenfranchisement of Christians in Iraq, the slaughter of Christians by Muslims in Sudan, … in many places where there is Islam there are problems, need I remind you of the Egyptian family in New Jersey killed execution style by offended Muslims? The Dutch director? The goal of Al-Queda, not all Muslims, is to re-establish the extent of the Ottoman Empire and beyond.

I have been to France and India, so I guess you can say I have been to both a Muslim and a Buddhist country…given a choice I’d stay home.

romano, you posted that you want this thread “closed off”. It took me several hours to open this thread. Still maybe I wasn’t absolutely clear so that no one, romano, not even you would misinterpret the question of this thread. READ… WORDS MEAN THINGS.

I will restate it for you. We are in a War with men from the Muslim religion, the terrorists. Some Muslims live in predomently Buddhist countries. I spent almost three years in Buddhists countries. They were nonreligious and very polite.

I asked if you had to go live abroad : would you prefer to live in
A. A Muslim country
B. A Buddhist country.

You tell me why this is a question worthy of being banned.

I think you made a mistake. You thought I asked into which religion would you move to, Muslim or Buddhist?

I DIDNT SAY THAT!

You will not see in my question where I said you would leave Catholocism. The question said you were moving overseas, not changing religions.

Since Buddhists are not known to be terrorists, it would seem moving with Buddhists would be better, you can still be Catholic there.
 
I would move to the Middle East, among the Muslims, even as a woman. My reasons are personal, for they are my family. I am half syrian.
 
I have been to Egypt–a predominately Muslim country, and I would never, ever, ever, ever move there as a Christian. If you are looking to live peacefully then the last thing you would want to do is move to a country where the majority of the people there practice a religion which teaches to convert all non-believers, and if they do not convert then to kill them?! My parents, who grew up in Egypt as Coptic Orthodox Christians left there for a reason–that reason being the persecution that Christians suffer there to this day.

So I guess I would chose a Buddhist nation.

I have never actually been to Syria (yet), but my cousin, with whom I have contact and who grew up there - the way he talks at least Syria isn’t that bad.

There are a coupla few churches there, from my understanding all Catholic and Orthodox and people pretty much leave them alone. Nobody harrasses them about it.
 
No question, Buddhist. Islam is going through a huge revival right now after a century of senescence. And revivals usually mean fundamentalism, and all a Muslim fundie has to do is look in Surah 8:12 or 9 of the Medina verses to justify violence and forced conversion. Many people my and and older are so used to the mellow Muslims of the pre-revival years that they still have trouble acknowledging the huge problem with Islam now.

I know as individuals Muslims can be very nice–I had an Iraqi math professor I used to chat with but I don’t know how devout he was if at all. I think some of the older Muslims I knew at university enjoyed being away from all that but probably felt guilty about it too.

The Holy Father openly admired Muslims for their devotion to prayer, but unfortunately that same devotion has a very dark underside.
