I think that’s worded right. What I mean is the two most well known verses pertaining to Mary: the prophecy of the virgin birth in Isaiah 7:14 and the angelic salutation calling Mary “full of grace” in Luke 1:28. Oh, and I also mean the English translations.
[BIBLEDRB]Isaiah 7:14[/BIBLEDRB]
[BIBLEDRB]Luke 1:28[/BIBLEDRB]
And…
Which commentary would give a good description that even a newbie could use to provide when defending the Church’s teachings about Mary? It’s usually one of the top 5 things non-Catholics question (or throw in my face with names like “heathen”, etc.). I’m guessing that Haydock’s would be very good. And also maybe checking the Catechism for some points to make.
So far I’ve found that the
Douay Rheims has it for both verses
Knox-1
Christian Community-has both, kinda. Luke 1:28 reads “Rejoice, full of grace”
New Jerusalem-0
New American Bible- Depends on which version. I’m somewhat sure the 1991 revision has Isaiah the traditional way, and am positive it doesn’t have it for Luke 1:28.
I know the RSV-2CE has “full of grace”, but I don’t have the OT, or know where the 2nd edition can be found online to check the Isaiah verse.
