I like the Catechism of the Catholic Church but have been told that the Catechism for Adults is more readable and also that it’s intended audience is the laity.Looking for a readable version of the Catechism. To read: The US Catholic Catechism for Adults
For serious study: *Catechism of the Catholic Church *2nd Ed.
There are also many other Catechisms that are good supplimental resources. These are the main up to date sources.

The Conpendium of the Catechism is good. It is in question and answer form, like the Baltimore Catechism, and gives references to the big catechism. We give this out to our RCIA folks.

Sounds as though it is geared more toward younger students, however, as a good Priest I know puts it… we are all students for life.

Actually it is not. Our bishop did a whole series on it on our diocesan TV station. It is more user friendly, especially for those who don’t feel like wading through the theological language of the CCC or are put off by its size.

Thanks, perhaps I’ll get it, I was just referring to what it said on the site I posted about it, maybe I’ll purchase it for those who ask me questions about our faith. Someone I know is currently doing that and has many false assumptions about what we as Catholics believe.
I already have the CCC, it is big but its all in there. I’ve read it many times over the past ten years and still refer to it often when speaking with others in person. I have the inclusions also, got those printed off the internet a long time ago on a site that I believe at that time was called Peter’s net. Thanks!!

If you desire to know what we believe, and gain somewhat of an understanding, then invest the time and energy to read the 1994 CCC. It’s the one with the Green Cover, in hardback.
Well worth your investment. You short change yourself, with any of the other, but not nearly as complete versions.

Yes the complete CCC is the best choice, but there are many Catholics out there who would not pick it up at all, but would pick up a more condensed version that is easier to read. That is the beauty of the Compendium. It is small, concise and easy to read and something all Cathoics would find accessible. We give them out not only to RCIA but to our catechists. I even find myself using it for a quick look up when I need a quick answer to something a parishioner calls and asks about. Since it is an official publication of the Vatican Library I know that the info in it is orthodox.

I gave a copy of the Compendium to the candidate I sponsored this year but I haven’t spent much time reading it myself. It’s good to hear from others that it’s of value. We may consider giving them to all candidates and catechumens as well.

I love that site too, thanks for posting that, I was looking for it to post. All of them together, all wonderful!! They ought to add the Compendium since it was authored by both John Paul II and Benedict XVI.You don’t have to restrict yourself to only one Catechism. You can read them all!
