Which way is North?

Does the Universe have a true “North”, “East”, “West”, and “South”? Does direction matter to God in relation to the Universe and mankind?

If we were part of a galaxy that was spinning into another galaxy, is there importance of direction?
 
I’m not sure what you are asking, but it seems to me the only direction that matters is the one leading to Jesus (the Way).

The Main Direction of the Universe is out . . . and Out . . . and … OUT.
All of the myriad Galaxy formations are propelling themselves away the “Center” of the Universe at the speed of 180,000 Miles an Hour.

And, Does Direction matter to God in relation to the Universe and mankind?
Yes, absolutely.
God has a certain Direction that He wants each Catholic to take in his Life.
And, actually, God wants us to focus our attention in the Direction of Heaven.
(Of course, God would ALSO like us to NOT focus in the Direction of Hades {and the guys there}.)

And, finally If we were part of a galaxy that was spinning into another galaxy, is there importance of direction?
Not to me.
In fact, not my Great-Grand kids … or Their Great-Grand kids.
Heck, if a Billion years from now something like THAT happens, Humankind can put that Issue on the Back Burner for 10,000 Generations or so.
And, the NEXT 10,000 Generations can think about it too. And the Next … and even the Next.

And, in just 5 Billion years, our Sun will turn into a Red Giant, and expand in size in our Direction.
Within a few years, it will grow in Size enough to “Gobble up” planet Earth.
I saw on TV, a Science Professor talking about his experiences.
He had given a lecture on this issue at Harvard.
Afterwards, a woman came up and asked him if he was SURE that the Earth would be destroyed in 5 Million years.
He told her : “No, it’s NOT 5 Million … it’s 5 Billion years.”
The woman looked surprised, and said to him : “Oh, Thank God for that!”**
So, people can start worrying about the Direction of our Galaxy just as soon as they want to.

Are you saying Jesus is “North”? Then I have to question if Jesus is in a fixed location or is he a moving target? I know Jesus is present in all the tabernacles of the world, but this does not give the totally of his precise complete location (assuming he is the onły direction to follow ).

Since Jesus is part if the Trinity, does it matter where God the Father & God the Holy Spirit dwell? Should we use Jesus as our direction, would all the tabernacles be the center of the universe?

Jesus is in Heaven, which is outside of our realm of understand in relation to “exact location”.
One can be anywhere in the world and still “follow” Him. If we are faithful to His Word and His will, our soul will be directed accordingly. Holy souls will reside with God in complete bliss. The address is not known, nor is it important.
He knows where we are. He’ll find us on the last day. No worries.

Designations like north are human inventions to help us make sense of the world we live in. When I was working in archaeology I used a Trinble GPS that would p(name removed by moderator)oint my location to one foot on the planet. Without the earlier north-south system, none of the newer technology would make any sense.

North is based on the magnetic poles of this planet. This directionality does not apply to the Universe.

The center of the universe is not relevant to God who stands outside of space and time in infinity.

North, East, South, and West are man made conventions. Your usage of the word “true” makes me think you are asking for an intrinsic sense of direction. There is not one. Though by the convention of the galactic coordinate system or celestial coordinate system there is a galactic north and a celestial north.

Even under current conventions the physical markers for direction change over time. The galaxy isn’t a static system. So the current directional system is also based on time. Whether or not it matters depends on the scenario to which you are applying direction. IT would matter more for communicating position in the far future. Not so much for coordinating geographical coordinates.
 
I thought this thread had something do with our moral compasses pointing rue north (metaphorically speaking). Evidently, I was wrong.
