White Cassock...

At a recent retreat there was a priest wearing what looked like a white cassock(no collar), he wore this all day each day. He concelbrated at the Masses(in the same vestments as every other priest), although he did have a book with him(as if the words were foriegn to him?) Does anyone know any possibilities as to what group he was part of?

Nobertines and Dominicans are known for wearing white, but not sure if they are cassocks.

In the tropics white is more common, due to the heat, for orders and diocesan priests.
 
The Missionaries of Africa also wear white. They were formerly known as the White Fathers. I think the name was changed to avoid any racial connotations.

OMG! how did i not notice before that it was Benedict?😃

if it helps any, the priest would have almost certainly been working as a parish priest, as he was there with a church youth group.

I looked up the nobertine website, but couldnt see any pictures that would give me a yay or nay
 
In this video you will see 180 priests in white cassocks/habits. Though some are Dominicans, the majority are not. Neither are they Nobertines. The procession of priests you will see in the video are from the Carmelites, Redemptorists, Diocesan, etc… Because they are living in Singapore, a tropical country, their cassocks/habits are made of white fabric.

Bishops have purple lining and purple fascia while priests may choose to use black piping and wear the black fascia- though it’s extremerly rare.

Yeah, some of those looked pretty much identical to what he had on, which now has me curious to where he was from. The group he came from was certainly from the US or Canada, and I assume niether of these qualify as “tropics”. The world may never know. I meant to ask him at one point but i could never find him during appropriate times to do such
 
Well, in the tropics, the cassocks- being white- also sometimes serve as albs. I’ve seen priests celebrate Masses with their white cassocks. If the cassocked is designed without the collar, roman cuffs, piping and exposed buttons, it could very well serve as both an alb and a cassock.

I don’t think that the indult to wear the white cassock was ever given in North America.
