One time I bought in a hamster with small cage and food. I boxed it up just shortly before the event. It was a riot… the lady that pick it screamed and nearly jumped out of her shoes. She thought it was a rat !!! Another lady who had a 10 year old kid selected it for her son.

IF some of the folks have kids you can get stuff for children. Another time I got a big stuffed animal. It got traded around quite bit.

One item that always gets traded alot are bottles of booze, liquors, brandies -Harvey’s bristol creme - Drambuie - Bracardi Rum etc, or wine.

One good idea for White elephant exchanges is for the group or host to get several decent ‘extra gifts’ such as bottles of wine or gift certificates. That way no one gets stuck with real loser gifts. In the end they can exchange fheir booby prizes for a bottle of wine.

Anyone like gas cards or a huge jar of cashews? Nice gifts that everyone can use and wants!

so know a white elephant gift is something one person might prize highly, but another person may not appreciate at all, and some parties that have a “white elephant” gift exchange expect participants to bring something they have been given, that has no value to them, but might be considered valuable or desireable by someone else. sometimes there is a draw from the hat, or sometimes a game is involved. You draw a number, you can either choose one of the unopened gifts, or you can take an opened gift from someone else, and they take an unopened gift. this game can be pretty hilarious, and a good ice breaker (do I need to explain that term?)
Exactly 👍 You do not buy a white elephant gift, it is the pinnacle of REGIFTING. You know, that set of gingerbread men cheese knives your monther-in-law gave you last year? You get them out of the closet, wrap them up and take them to the party.

…and the following week all the white elephants go on a one-way trip to the local thrift shop…
