If you look at Orthodox Jews and Jews that believe in the Talmud(Which is really kind of racist) they don’t intermarry and some of them look white with real dark hair and beards…that’s who Jesus most likely resembled but with a tan.

If people are turned off by the Church because of how Jesus’ skin tone is depicted, they are the racist ones.

They are making a judgement based solely on appearance.

Ok Timidity…so what Jesus was born with missing toes and had a wondering eye as well because of all the inbreeding…what are you trying to get at?

My hubby’s cousin is a Hasidim. He had an arranged marriage to a woman who, I am pretty certain, became Orthodox Jewish as an adult(Although she is of Jewish descent.) His wife is from Russia. So, I would imagine that there is mixed racial ancestry there.

If the Jewish people were sold into slavery-many were- then it makes sense that even the Orthodox Jews would have interracial ancestry. Sadly, a female slave can not always control who impregnates her-I am thinking of rape. So, we can not say that everyone who is Orthodox Jew today have completely pure racial ancestry.

Just the time and location suggest Jesus would have looked more-or-less like a middle eastern man of the time. But that of course isn’t a guarantee.

Both Europe and the Americas have historically been full of “black Christs” and “black Madonnas”.

maybe not, but there is a letter from pilate to his superiors that is in possession of the Vatican. It describes him of being lighter complected than him peers and followers, like a European person of the time would be. An asside he also says finds Jesus’s teachings for lack of a better expression, refreshing. Pilate also oredered police troops under his command that no harm come to Jesus. This letter was printed in a sunday church bulleten at a parish my family belonged to about 20 years ago.
Interesting. I’d never heard this before. I agree with most every post I’ve read so far in this thread-- he probably looked like your average Jew, all of whom look pretty white to me. But in the end, does it really matter? I am not in the least upset when I see a black Christ or an Asian-looking Christ. Although they would be historically inaccurate, who cares? His looks and color were simply not important. What does bother me is when someone insists (as I heard years ago on the radio) that he WAS such and such a color and that it is for some reason important that the whole world agree to that.

.

No one would like to see Mary depicted like Swan (of MadTV), who in her own right would say that Jesus “looka like-a man.”
