I’m hoping somebody can resolve this, I’m 99.9% sure of the answer anyway but would like a confirmation.
I went to my regular TLM this morning. When I got there, the sacristan, who I help out with, was putting a WHITE frontal on the lectern. When I questioned this, he was very insistent that he’d checked up and found that white or gold vestments could be used on the 4th Sunday of Lent! Unfortunately there was a mishap - due to a breakdown of communication the priest who was due to celebrate the TLM didn’t turn up! So we didn’t get the chance to find out one way or the other.
I’m 99.9% sure that only purple or rose is allowed today. I know that gold may occasionally substitute for white, red (and possibly green) for a special solemnity, but I wouldn’t have thought it could substitute for purple!
