I attend mass and recieve the Eucharist, and I also believe that there is only one mediator; Jesus Christ. I pray to God for forgiveness, and I still attend mass and recieve the Eucharist. I’ve confessed to a priest before, but since then, I never have went to a priest for confession for years. (about 5 or more)

I know what Protestantism is, and I know what Catholicism is. The thing is, I find it really hard to examine myself and know who I am. Am I a Protestant or a Catholic?

Were you baptized Catholic? And if you are Catholic, and you haven’t been to confession in five years, you should NOT be receiving the Eucharist, period. You need to go at least once a year.

I’ve been baptized since i was a baby.
I also knew that receiving the Eucharist without confessing mortal sins was bad, but I prayed to God for forgiveness.

Okay if you are baptized what church was that in? Catholic or somewhere else?

In the Catholic view, this is gravely wrong. I don’t mean to ridicule you, so please don’t take it that way, but one cannot simply ask God for forgiveness while neglecting to make amends in the way that God prescribed.

I would encourage you to make an examination of conscience and confess, and to abstain from the Eucharist until/unless you do - to receive in a state of mortal sin is sacrilege.

I will pray for you as you discern the truth.

I’m sorry for receiving the Eucharist while not in a state of grace, but I think I forgot to say that I recieved the Eucharist without being in a state of grace without knowing that It was actually a grave offense to do so… I just realized what I did wrong.

But does that still mean it is grave?

So you’ve never made your First Communion or Confirmation.

I think you should contact your Parish and see what you still need to finish. You should definitely talk with a Priest.

That does make a big difference 🙂

It still was not correct to receive the Eucharist, but it is not gravely sinful if you did not know. You can’t be held accountable for what you are unaware of.

I’ve had first confession. It was actually my FIRST one. Ever. I will talk to a priest once a priest is available. Thank you for asking.

Do you really believe there is only one mediator? Would you ever ask another living person to pray for you?

1 Timothy 2:5 says that there is only one mediator, so i believe it. My mom has prayed for me, but i think thats about it. Maybe I should ask more people to pray for me. Thanks for asking. I dont see a direct reference in the Bible that you should confess to a priest; so I believed 1 Timothy 2:5.

I think you’re a confused Protestant lol.
If you are gonna go to Catholic Mass, you should believe and follow the teachings of the Catholic Church or just go to Protestant services.

And Mary, and all the saints whom we ask to pray for us are arguably more alive then we are, right now.

Time to make an appointment with your pastor and work through the details with him.

If you’re unable to go to Confession at the regularly scheduled time, you can make an appointment with the parish priest.

The Catholic Church is not a club that you join like the Lions or Kiwanis.
It presupposes that you are on a path either from birth because your parents were Catholics or from your assent of faith made at your confirmation when you became Catholic through the RCIA program.
Any other way is just make believe. And it could put your soul in jeopardy.
To clear this up you should speak to your priest at the church you attend for mass. Also as Catholics we are required to go to confession at least once per year minimum. Better to go to confession more regularly but once a year is required.
