Who Are Your All-Time Favorite Pro Wrestlers?

The passing of Rowdy Roddy Piper has me thinking about when I would watch wrestling in the early 80’s on late night TV (WOR from NY to be exact - it was carried by our cable provider).

At the time, I was not a fan of Piper; particularly after what he did to Jimmy Snuka on a “Piper’s Pit” segment. The “Superfly” was my favorite. I was a kid, and at the time, I probably did not realize how fake wrestling was. I also remember Snuka’s rivalry with Don Muraco.
 
Bret Hart (you always cheer for the Harts), Randy Savage, Ric Flair, the Rock, and of course The Undertaker.
 
El Santo was great, too, but I only know him from some of those spectacularly crazy films he was in.
 
Actually, Roddy Piper is one of my favorites. He was an absolutely great talker, and one of my favorite moments of his was when he first came out to “surprise” Hulk Hogan back in mid-90’s during the nWo thing.

So you’re bored, are ya? I’ve come here to break your monotony!

I also really appreciated how much of a family man he was.

As an aside, I just found this:
“Roddy and I made a couple road trips during our time in WWE. We talked about some serious things that happened in our lives. He had some dark areas, too. We talked about those dark areas, and over the years we became very close because of that. We both had substance abuse problems, and each time we’d try to pick the other one up. It’s just unbelievable to me that this [death] has happened. To go through this after losing Dusty [Rhodes], come on, it’s just too much. I said a prayer for him, and I don’t know what else to do. I know for a fact I’m going to have to sit down in the next day or two and get private and let it all come out. I need to grieve.”

First of all, I had no idea that Dusty Rhodes had died. Secondly, we should all follow Jake’s lead, and say a prayer not only for Piper, not only for Rhodes and for Jake Roberts, but for all of those involved in the wrestling industry. What a sad world it seems to be.

That was great. Piper beat Hogan clean at Starrcade 1996.
 
That’s great that he’s your neighbor - that’s kind of sort of how I knew Kinji Shibuya.

I wonder if Bruno and Kinji ever wrestled?

Anyway, anyone you actually feel genuine affection or friendship for is always going to be the best answer.👍

Oh, and also, I see you dig Shibumi. I madly love that book!
 
Rick “the model” Martel, because he had his “Arrogance” cologne…in a device like what we used in the barn to apply fly spray. Gave some funny interviews, too.

Yeah, Trevian’s great; I’ll have to check out The Loo Sanction. Shibumi’s the only book of his I’ve read.

I haven’t watched wrestling in years but I remember really liking Amy Dumas (better known as Lita). The others I liked were Stone Cold, The Rock, The Hardy Boyz…and that’s all I can remember. 🙂
 
When I was a kid, I was impressed by Andre the Giant’s otherworldly size. Plus, he played Bigfoot on the Six Million Dollar Man.
