Not really characters? They’re not characters in any sense, they are real people and real chefs who happen to be on television 🤷

Well, Kaga is a character. He is not really an eccentric billionaire who wanted to taste food that was truly a work of art, and founded Kitchen Stadium, so he could pit the greatest chefs of the world against his Iron Chefs, in the King of Iron Chefs Tournament. That is the fictional premise to provide an entertaining framework for real cooking contests to take place. Even though they are real people, they have a persona on Iron Chef. Take Home Chef is a little different, but I still like him, even though he’s real. I was just saying I liked them on TV, not implying that they were made up.

At least some of them, as portrayed on TV, are characters.

Alton Brown, for example, presents himself as a character in Good Eats; that character is based strongly on himself, but isn’t actually him. He’s said so in interviews.

Yes. Thank you. If Curtis on Take Home Chef really lurked in grocery stores waiting to ambush women and go home with them and cook dinner, it would be creepy, and possibly criminal. On the TV show, it’s charming. He’s really a chef, but he plays a character of himself.

I wasn’t particularly thinking of Kaga when I made my comment.

It’s part of being on TV that it’s selective in what it shows about you, and you perhaps appear a little different than you would in real life. That doesn’t mean that you’re a ‘character’. It’s just the nature of tv.

Barrack Obama doesn’t spend every minute of every day attending important ceremonies and critical meetings and making important speeches. Yet we don’t call him a ‘character’ just because we don’t get tv footage of him shaving, going to the can, doing boring mundane paperwork or working out in the gym. 🤷

Whoever said Dr. Jeffery Geiger is my soulmate 😃 😉 Mandy Patinkin is WONDERFUL!

Dead Like Me: Rube and George

House: Drs Cameron and Chase (he was a former seminarian… I would like to see him rediscover the faith)

The character that gave me the biggest belly-laughs was Archie Bunker.

The character is wish I were the most like is B.J. Hunnicutt from MASH; he’s so fundamentally decent and very witty.
