Who can become a Pope?

Is it necessary to be a Cardinal to become Pope? Or can you be a bishop or priest?
 
Technically any male can be elected Pope. If he’s not already a bishop he would immediately be ordained as one (canon 332 §1).

In Church history there have been laity elected Pope (i.e. John XIX).

However, in modern times that is highly unlikely.
