Jesus is explaining to the disciples part.
Yes there are the 2 of you in a confessional and yes God is present there. God is also present if 2 or 3 are gathered at a street corner in his name. Now if 2 of you are gathered in the name of Christ and you confess a sin to your friend are you confessing it to God because you 2 are gathered in his name and being that you confessed a sin to your friend wouldn’t that make your friend a represntative of Christ?

James 5:16 If you sinned against someone tell (confess) him your sin and ask for his forgiveness. Pray for eachother so you might not sin again. If you are a rightous preson on who believe in God and tryes to do what is right your prayers have meaning to God.

When you confess to a preson you are asking for his/her forgiveness. If you have not done anyone wrong but have sinned then you can go to God and ask for his forgiveness.
Exactly. But not all the times we can do this. That’s why God allows for the forgiveness of sins through his ‘agency’.

RevKevin,

After getting a good basic instruction on penance, I think perhaps maybe…that it would also benefit in spending some time with the Lord with out us Catholics. Just find peace and holiness…and begin to ask the Lord if confession is part of His will.

Let the Lord guide and speak to you about confession. If your soul is filled with such grace to help other people like you do, I am most certain the Lord can also work through you to guide you.

We are of no help, it seems, and it only agitates when we answer.

Call upon your baptism and ask the Lord to guide you to His will and what He wills for His church. Only He can direct and guide you when it comes to confession. That is what I think. He will be the one to answer you. But you have to sincerely seek and wait…

If you feel drawn to pray for me then do so with all my blessings, but I also ask you to pray for those who do not know God or that totally have rejected him in their lives, not just because they are not Catholic but because they don’t believe he is real or exists or refuse to be a part of him.
Will do and already do. I’m more concerned about the ones who reject Christ who were once Christian, whether Catholic or not. I do not pray for people to become Catholic but rather to find truth, because ultimately isn’t that what we’re really looking for in God. I also ask that you do not pray that people reject their Catholic faith and pray for them to draw closer to Christ in their faith tradition and in that faith come to know the truth, not just stumble on impediments that lead them further away from Christ. I pray that Catholics become deeper in their relationship with Christ by learning about Him through scripture and any other means available to us, including you and others like you.

Anyone can disagree or reject what something says, but that does not make their decision correct. It takes many years of discerning truth. That’s why Catholics are taught that conversion is an ongoing process, not just a prayer from the heart and baptism as some one time light switch turned on. Sure, it tunes us into Christ and makes us more open to hearing the word of God, but it doesn’t stop their and it is a heresy to believe “once saved always saved”. I do believe that that statement is often taken out of context, but I still disagree with the other meaning, but not at much as I dot the get saved and then live a sinful life and you are still saved. Just like you have misunderstood many Catholic traditions so do others misunderstand Baptist traditions.

Let’s pray for everyone and for God to have mercy on the whole world.

Hi TweetyMom,

I got back and decided to draw on St. Hilary as well as give you former post reference of St Justin the Martyr…have you taken the time to read them…as they are ancient writings that reflect the church’s teachings today.

And I must add, again, it is in Scriptures that the Lord gave His apostles (and their successors) the authority to forgive sins. These are sins that break relationship with God and neighbor, serious sins. We are obligated to seek forgiveness with each other.

The Lord appeared to the apostles on the evening of His resurrection in His ascended state. If this practice of confession was not necessary, the Lord would not have done this. The Lord does not say idle words. The power of death and sin was broken on the day of His resurrection. Appearing to His apostles before His ascension into heaven was the final completing acts of His mission here on earth.

I think people take some things about our faith so hard, and are so hard on our priests, our Eucharist, how we arrange our churches, it is sad and it shows there is a need for respect as well from our separated brethren. I don’t participate on other beliefs’ sites.

After all you are guests to our site and we are here to help and share our beliefs with you, and we are trying to share and in sometimes, difficult circumstances.

But if some come here with an attitude and don’t bother to acknowledge historical documents to the ancient foundation of Catholicism, then I am seriously deciding not to further continue my participation in this thread.

Sorry you think some have an attitude.Perhaps I do too? But I go direct to God for confession.

I have not ever and will not ever tell someone to reject or leave their Catholic faith, I’m not that way. As a matter of face I had a PM from someone who is struggling with the Catholic faith and I told that person to be strong in their faith and pray to God for help in their struggle.
You are correct that I don’t know everything about the CC and that you don’t know everything about Baptists. You like I disagree with some of the teaching and beliefs of our different religions and that is all right. See when I ask things here that I disagree with I’m trying to understand why it is you believe the way you do and I give my view on it. I mean no disrespect to the CC although it may sometimes seem like I am. I have said several times here on the CAF that I respect the CC and have nothing against the CC.
I will also keep those who reject God in my prayers and I always have.

Thank you Rev. you are a dear brother in Christ. I too never want anyone to leave their faith. Please pray for me also. thanks and love

I have done some research on the Catholic confession and I understand why you do it the way you do. But I just don’t see it in the same way. I did not say I disagree with confession, confession is a very important part of being in line with Christ but I don’t believe you need to go through a priest. I pray to God every day for guidance and strenght to do his will, which we all know isn’t easy.

You got it girl, I’ll pray for you. I don’t need to know what for that is between you and God and he knows what you need.

Tweety, is that before or after you log into CAF? Also, do you post to any Protestant forums? If so, would you give me a site so I can read some of your posts? Just curious. Peace be with you.

I ask God for forgiveness everyday morning and night. Were you trying to be a smart-- Why would you think I need before Caf or after? No I do not belong to any other forums except this one if I did you would be welcome. I have nothing to hide.

Seems some have a misconception about ‘confession’. When a Catholic goes to ‘confession’, they are confessing their sins directly to God.

We confess them before an authority place over His Church, and we ask for forgiveness. Remember, it was Christ who chose and appointed men over His Church and it was those men that He gave the authority to bind and loose, and forgive and retain sins.
**Joh 20:23 Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them: and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained. **

Rev Kevin:

**Will sorry you feel that way. You don’t have to prove anything to me I’m alright with that. Now about your attitude about me being a x-Catholic, let me tell you that it has something to desire. I feel the hatred in you towards others who are not like you or don’t believe what you believe. **

With all due respect, but it has nothing to do with hatred. I do not hate anyone or if someone disagrees with my faith. If I you have misread me,I accept it. What I oppose is the thousands of divisions and factions that have stemmed from Protestanism, which is not what Christ intended or built for His Church. The fact there exists thousands of different non-Catholic churches teaching conflicting teachings is not helping Christian unity.

**Take a good look at yourself and ask yourself, is that how someone should be towards others. Ask yourself, would God be please with me for feeling and saying things like that towards someone. Ask yourself is that what Jesus taught me. Is that what Jesus did when they disagreed with him. Is that what Jesus said when dying on the cross. Did Jesus say to others I won’t talk to or answer you because you are a Gentile. Now you are not making the CC look good to Protestants or others by saying or having a attitude like that. Now I never asked you to accept the majority of novel teachings of Protestantism that has been around for less than 500 years. I haven’t forced you to get in any discussion with me you did that on your own and you are free to stop anytime you like. See it was all up to you to get into a discussion or not so don’t have a attitude about that with me, it your own falt, not mine. **

I hear you out and it is well noted. However, bottomline is simple: Christianity is about the TRUTH,not my fuzzy feelings, opinions, private judgments, etc. God does not care for each us to give our opinions as to what we ‘think’ is truth, hence the many divisions. Jesus already took care of it and it lies within His Church. He did not leave up to the individuals, but the Apostles and His Church.

I hear what you are saying and I commend you on your strongness in your faith. Now if it wasn’t for Protestants I don’t think many would come to union with God. You may object to the “thousands” of Protestant churches and I have no porblem with that. Protestant church’s have brought millions to Christ who might not have come to him. We do love and honor Christ but in a different way then the CC does. You focuse on the death of Christ and we focuse on his life which both are very important. We focuse on the good Christ has done and you focuse on tradition. IMO some Catholics are more worried about tradition, being the one true church, the chain of command from the apostles to the present that some times they loose sight of what it means to be a Christian. They worry so much about authority, who can do what and who can’t. They worry that there are “thousands” of Protestant church’s that they have only been around for 500 years that they loose sight of the other things Christ has taught us. Christ has taught us so many things but the CC seems to focuse on tradition, being around for 2000 years, being the one true church, authority, and so on and it seems like they forget all the other things that Christ has taught us.
But you are different then us and we are different than you.

Hi tweetymon how are things going? I have been praying for you like you asked.
Yes the bottom line it that we all love Jesus and that is the will of God for us. To let him control our lives, to honor him in everything we do, to praise him and to be loving to others no matter who they are, what religion they are, what color they are, what nationality they are. We are to love them no matter what. That is what Jesus taught us.
