who can forgive sin

I think Rev Kev has come a long way in this thread.

First he didn’t understand confession:
What kind of sin would they retain? If you confess your sin and truly mean it then your sins will be forgiven. How would they know if you truly meant it or not? When I was Catholic and went to confession (which I did not like to do) the priest never retained any of my sins. Are there certain ones that they will retain if so why?
Next he understood a little better but believed differently than Catholics:
Yes and I understand where the CC is coming from about confession. Its just I don’t see the need to confess to anyone other than God himself. I believe in confession but not the way ya’ll do. I believe its an important part of being one with Christ, but not in the same way ya’ll do. I just don’t believe in everything ya’ll believe. It don’t mean I’m rejecting God like I have been told. I embrace God with all my heart and soul, I believe in being in unoin with God, just not in the same way ya’ll do. And I don’t believe that just because I don’t believe the way ya’ll do that I’m any less of a God loving, God fearing, God honoring person than the rest of ya’ll.
To defensiveness:
I feel the hatred in you towards others who are not like you or don’t believe what you believe. Take a good look at yourself and ask yourself, is that how someone should be towards others.
Rev Kev, maybe God drew you here for something more than to rebuke Catholics.

=Nicea325;6587583]Rev Kevin:
Christ has taught us so many things but the CC seems to focuse on tradition, being around for 2000 years, being the one true church, authority, and so on and it seems like they forget all the other things that Christ has taught us.
Again, for someone who says he is an ex-Catholic I cannot believe you have allowed yourself to be spoon fed those common Protestant beliefs about Catholicism.
**Rev. Kevin:**That friend is about as wrong as one can be. The Catholic Church is not only “a bible church” we are THEE Bible Church by virtue of the FACT that 1. We birthed the Bible 2. In a three year cycle Catholics are exposed to the ENTIRE Bible 3. We use THE ENTIRE BIBLE GOD ENTENDED [2 Tim. 3:16] TO BE USED and 4. As the Parents of the Bible we are the ONLY Curch able to share it’s Full message, and to share it in Complete Objective TRUTH, guided by the Holy Spirit.
**But you are different then us and we are different than you. **
And that is not what Christ intended or left. The ONE sheperd and ONE flock does come into play here. Likewise, I do recall St.Paul not being very fond of divisions as was the case in Corinth.
With GREAT REASONS:

We actually have and use the Entire Bible, and apply Gods mandates [Euchrist and Confession for example] and we actually have Jesus Christ in out Midst; In PERSON. We have validly and licitly Christ Seven Sacraments. Of Course we are differnt; we are as God Founded us; Protestants are as Luther, Calvin, Smith and others have formed you.

Nicely said.👍

Amen…

I think the other problem is that they simply do not believe in the sacrament of Holy Orders, and do not or will not or are unable to study the priesthood’s origin and function.

It is a reaction to the priest without studying what Holy Orders is…and in that I am starting to wonder if this is indeed some kind of obsession … bondage … and torment from the Evil One.

Yesterday I saw an exorcism. Before that it was recorded the demon had worry. It said its worry was ‘priest’…‘worry’…‘priest’…

The priest came. Finally, the man threw up and the demon was gone.

Hollywood only shows priests doing exorcisms. Priests are alot more powerful than people realize, but it is the power of Jesus that we know.

Bible fellowship, common acts of Christian forgiveness towards one another are aspects of Christian life.

But the sacramental life is concrete, physical that contain the actual presence of Christ within…the Lord must chose His consecrated ones.

All priests admit that theirs was a true calling and that they are very happy in their life.

If you study Catholicism, its history, and just Sunday Mass, not only will you hear the Word of God…we go through the entire Bible and it takes 3 cycles or years to do it…that the entire Church environment is speaking Scripture in through various modes of expression…wholistic, art, beauty, and ancient symbols of the altar fulfilled in the altar in the church today.

It is sad to see people just react and not really acknowledge anything about the greatness of our faith.

So this thread is still going, eh? 😉

I think it’s been pretty clearly explained to Rev Kev just what the Catholic Church’s belief on the role of the priest in persona Christi means.

So, RK, is this still a matter of you not understanding it, understanding it and rejecting it, or understanding it, rejecting it, and trying to convince Catholics that it is incorrect?

If it’s the former, then I still feel sorta obligaged to continue participating to help you understand. If it’s either the latter two, then I’ve got other things to attend to. :p;)

Where are you on this understanding?

I am not RK, but my answer is this. I think like me he understands it just not accep;ting of it. Not trying to convince otherwise, just stating our belief. Thanks and God Bless

Tweety, I’ve read your responses on the CAF for many months. To date, I don’t recall you every accepting any of the foundations of the Catholic faith. Most of the time, you post one-liners letting us all know that you “don’t believe that” or " I go directly to God." I think we all know that you are not going to convince us and we are not going to convince you. My question is, what blessing do you personally receive by all of this? I don’t mean to accuse or offend. I am just curious. Peace be with you.

I agree…no response or acknowledgment…people take time to share and then we get the one liners that really are really invalidating …so that I am at the point to just ignore.

The same blessing you receive,I just tell my beliefs, sorry if it offends you. Sometimes I am offended too. Jesus blesses me daily as he does all believers in Him.

Cool Do want an arguement? If I disagree I say so and if not, same response.

Works for me.

Now, should Orthodox and Catholics reject this teaching about reconcilliation so that we can be more in line with non-apostolic beliefs?

Now I tell you what since I am neither I do not have the answer. I think for me it would be a personal thing. I would either accept or reject. But i cannot speak for anyone else.

What is it that you do not understand?
Obviously, confession to a priest is not an option , need, or desire to you since you are not Orthodox or Catholic.

Are you saying that*** IF ***you were Orthodox or Catholic, you would need to make a decision about whether or not there is a need to confess mortal sins to a priest?

Thanks.

***Rev? You know why: Ihave shared in specific detail OT and NT Biblical evidence, MUTIPLE TIMES; you’re just not willing to accept THE Singular Truth.

The OT leads to the NT which through Jesus, completes and perfects it.

Yahweh God used Priest at least as far back as Moses and Aaron as intercessors for the forgiveness of sins. *** **Exo. 28: 41 **“And you shall put them upon Aaron your brother, and upon his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests.” **Lev. 9: 7
**]"Then Moses said to Aaron, “Draw near to the altar, and offer your sin offering and your burnt offering, and make atonement for yourself and for the people; and bring the offering of the people, and make atonement for them; as the LORD has commanded.”

Lev.4: 26 And all its fat he shall burn on the altar, like the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings; so the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin, and he shall be forgiven. Lev.5: 16 He shall also make restitution for what he has done amiss in the holy thing, and shall add a fifth to it and give it to the priest; and the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and he shall be forgiven.** Num.15
[28]** And the priest shall make atonement before the LORD for the person who commits an error, when he sins unwittingly, to make atonement for him; and he shall be forgiven."

Now Perfected in the NT, where it remains GOD WHO FORGIVES THE SINS; ONCE THEY HAVE BEEN CONFESSED AS JESUS CHRIST COMMANDS; AND THE PRIEST [AS IS HIS ROLE FROM JESUS] GRANTS A REQUEST TO CHRIST TO FORGIVE THEM.

**John.20 Verses 19 to 23 "On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." **

You’re personal theory that God gives EVERYBODY permission to forgives sins is simply silly. It denies the Way God created us with a freewill, intellect and mind. All spiritual gifts.

Matt. 28: 16-20 "Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.”

Mk. 16:11 But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table; and he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen.** And he said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.**

**Luke.24: 9 **“and returning from the tomb they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. 33 And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them,”

IF God limits the abilty to Baptize, and Preach the Gospel to the “eleven” CERTAINLY that is who [in perfecting the OT use of Priest] whould be who Christ was addrssing and commanding.

***Your free to beleive any thing you can invent; your also free to chhose hell over heaven.

May God have Mercy on you!***

Tweety,

Your answers don’t seem to communicate … we are not the same…Catholic worship is very different from a fundamentalist service.

I have gone to fundamentalists’ services, they are good, but they are lacking so much that before they end, I need to go the sacraments as soon as I can.

I would say that you are denying yourself Manna from Heaven.
