Who Can Open The Tabernacle?

Sad to say, when I was an EMHC many years ago and very unknowledgable of the rubrics, I had on many occasions been the one to open the Tabernacle, remove our Lord in the ciborium, and after Communion returned the sacred vessels back to the Tabernacle. Other EMHCs took care of cleansing the chalices, including consuming any remaining . Since we alternated I, too, consumed the and cleansed the chalices. The priest did none of these things. I didn’t know it was wrong then but once I learned I quit being an EMHC and eventually, after many other bad things happened, left the parish along with 5 other families to help start up a brand new parish in our area. That parish turned out to be the best we have ever been a part of. Everyone knew the rubrics, including the priests, and never, ever deviated from them. No altar s, no EMHCs (not needed) and no Protestant type music. Man I miss that parish.

i would too

Actually, what you speak is heresy. Jesus spent a great deal of time in the sixth chapter of St. John’s Gospel explaining how his Body and Blood were real food and drink. In the Last Supper, He said, “Take and eat, this is MY BODY. Take and drink, this is MY BLOOD.” It’s interesting how the protestants will take the stranger parts of the bible literally, but, when it comes to Jesus’ own words, they dismiss them as symbolic.

Jesus is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity are contained in that Sacred Host.

Incidentally, Mary is the new Ark of the Covenant, the new Tabernacle, if you will. The OT Ark held symbols that foreshadowed what was to come. The Ark held the Manna, the Law and the Rod of Aaron. In her womb, Mary held the Bread of Life, the Author of the Law and the Eternal Priest. Mary was not struck dead because she held God within her.

For a person to say that Jesus is not in the Tabernacle is to have a gross misunderstanding of the faith of the Church.
Yes, I’m already aware I am a heretic. Thanks for reminding me. Also the new temple is US! The holy spirit now comes and dwells in us and we become the new temple. I see no scripture supporting your idea that Mary is the new temple of God.

1 Cor 6:19 says—Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

benedictgal did not say “Mary is the new temple of God”, but that “Mary is the new Ark of the Covenant”. But, by your own admission, Mary was a temple of God, at least in the same way that you or I can be the temple of God.

As for Scripture supporting that Mary is the Ark of the New Covenant (or the New Ark of the Covenant… same thing), see this essay and this article.

I’ve had the same experience. However, we don’t do that anymore at our parish. Either the deacon or father will get the ciborium and cleanse the chalices. I’m not a EMHC anymore - I just didn’t feel right about it.

Apparently anybody and everybody from what I’ve seen overthe years.
