Who consumes the left over wine?

Is it acceptable to have an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist consume the left over precious blood? I was asked this question after having someone witness this at their Church.
 
I think the priest has to do it.

I also think you should change the title of your thread before you can’t edit anymore. It’s Blood - not wine.
 
Leftover wine, that is wine still in the cruet that has not been consecrated, is usually poured back into the bottle and saved for later Masses in a frugal parish, or is poured down the sink in a prodigal parish.
 
EMs who have the wine are expected to drink it at masses I have been at, if not a sacristan can do it, or other parishes have the priests drink it after mass.
 
I’m confused. I though the OP was asking about the Precious Blood :confused: .
 
I think it’s the priests who do(?). I remember watching Mass on EWTN, and one of them was telling his story about that.
 
I consumed 4 chalices of left over Precious Blood once. I went to confession to confess being Drunk on Jesus. The priest laughed and then gave me absolution (I was underage at the time)

Sometimes they do, sometimes they do not. It depends on the parish and the priest.

After the Consecration no wine remains, only the Precious Blood of Christ. A EMHC may consume the remaining Precious Blood from their chalice. They should not be consuming other chalices, the priest or deacon should.
 
This is from the usccb web site.

The approved procedure for dealing with the Precious Blood which remains after a eucharistic celebration is addressed in no.52 of the Norms. The consecrated wine is never to be poured into the ground or into the sacrarium. Rather, it is to be consumed by the ministers after Communion is completed.

It has to be the priest who a) finishes the Precious Blood and b) cleans the cups

Brother, maybe I’m mistaken but I thought that it was the Priest who had to consume the Precious Blood leftover as well as clean the chalices.

That is the policy in my parish.

The priest (or deacon or instituted acolyte) must do the purification of the chalices, but the EMHC’s are allowed to consume any remaining Precious Blood that is left in the chalices that they had been ministering.

The EMHC are no longer permitted to purify the chalices and ciboriums. I don’t have it here but the paragraph says that EMHC may consume the remaining Blood of Christ from the chalice that they administer.
 
When I’m ushering, I’m frequently the last person to receive the Precious Blood (and if not me, then it’ll be the usher from the adjacent aisle). The EEM will sometimes explicitly ask me to drink the rest, especially if there’s more than just a sip left.

Where do you get this info from?
 
With 7 EMHC’s in my church the priest asks each EMHC to finish the Precious Blood in their cup.

If not, he might have a very tough time giving us his dismissal blessing!:eek:
