Anderson33:
the intention is very simple Emad:
I want to know why there is so much disparity regarding that particular subject
the Quoran is very specific as to how to discipline women, whereas with men is so vague or nonexistent, to say the least. You muslims claim that Islam means parity between husbands and wives. I beg to difer, and this is a very good point which i want to discuss in more detail.
Once you acknowledge this, then i will proceed with more questions.
Thanks

There is actually a chapter in the Quran named Al mujadila translated as “She that disputes.” It tells a story of a woman who went to complain to Prophet Mohamed (pbuh) about her husband. She said " She said, `O Allah’s Messenger! He spent my wealth, exhausted my youth and my womb bore abundantly for him. When I became old, unable to bear children, he pronounced the Zihar on me!"
Zihar comes from a word which means “the back”. It refers to a practice done by arab men at the time…when he wanted to declare Zihar to his wife, he would say "To me, you are like the back of my mother.’’ which means that he wont sleep with her, but then again she is not completly divorced. This cycle would continue over and over again. The woman goes on to say that after he told her that “He went out and sat with some of his people. Then he came back and wanted to have sexual intercourse with me” and she refused…seeking first to seek the counsel of Prophet Mohamed (pbuh) and complain.
It wasnt the Prophet that answered her complaint, but God himself, in the verses revealed in the Quran.
So, the first verses starts
Allah has indeed heard (and accepted) the statement of the woman who pleads with thee (Mohamed)concerning her husband and carries her complaint (in prayer) to Allah. and Allah (always) hears the arguments between both sides among you: for Allah hears and sees (all things)
(Quran 58:1)
Then, it goes on to say that if you men are going to do this…you can not resume intercourse whenever you wish…you will actually have to go through actions of repentence which would include fasting for 2 consecutive months (not eating from sunup to sundown).
For those men who treat their wives like that…and ignore the verses of God…God has said
Those who resist Allah and His Messenger will be humbled to dust, as were those before them: for We have already sent down Clear Signs. And the Unbelievers (will have) a humiliating Penalty,-
On the Day that Allah will raise them all up (again) and show them the Truth (and meaning) of their conduct. Allah has reckoned its (value), though they may have forgotten it, for Allah is Witness to all things. (Quran 58:5-6)
So, in a way, as to the punishment of the men who mistreat their wives…God takes it upon himself to punish them.
