Who do you go to for advice?

Sometimes at reconciliation after you confess your sins the priest will advise you on how to avoid those sins in future; but I read that that is optional on the priest’s part and all he really needs to do is absolve you. If he doesn’t advise, who do you go to for this sort of advice?

One thing I’m thinking about is who could guarantee confidentiality like a priest in the confessional?

Due to circumstances I don´t go to Confession in my parish anymore. It´s impractical, but on the bright side, it has led me to finding other great confessors. I have to travel a bit, but I feel like I get more out of it. The advice is more aptly and I feel better about it - and also, I get to go with a priest of my choice and not just the one available.

Rather than that I go here on CAF for advice, or with my Godfather (but with him; not about my sins, but rather other things affecting my Faith like vocation etc.).

I would try making an appointment with the priest. When I go to confession, I usually ask for advice if I feel like I really need it. You might have to try a different parish. Good luck!

You could find a Spiritual Director to work with.

Look for a spiritual advisor. If you have a monastery within a reasonable driving distance, a monk/priest can make a great confessor and spiritual advisor!
