Who does the pope, cardinals, or priest…say the antichrist is? What biblical verses do they use to support these claims? Does this “antichrist” fulfill every aspect of the prophecy?

When you give an answer, please make sure that every aspect of the prophecy is covered and not just a few of them or most of them. Because if every aspect in fulfilled then that particular kingdom does not hold the seat of the antichrist power.

My fascination is that this power is going to persecute and wear out the saints before Christ’s second coming. On top of that, it’s in the Bible. Does that not alarm you? God wants us to know who the antichrist power is, that’s why He gave us the characteristics to identify it.

If the catholic church is the true church, then who better to ask?

JL: The best book I have read on Revelation, from a Catholic point of view is, “The Book Of Destiny” by Father Herman Bernard Kramer. First published in 1955, He thought we were in chapter nine at that time. He goes verse by verse, you can get a used copy on Amazon for almost nothing.

By you saying I have no opinion in one sentence and then you say who you “think” I say the antichrist is, is a contradiction. Please do not derail my thread.

Yes, in another thread I stated who I think it is. In this thread, I asked who does the catholic church say it is. How is that a contradiction.

If you do not have an answer as to who fully fits the description, then what is the reason that you post in this thread? You are deliberately doing this. I have no problem with it, but can you at least talk about who fulfills this entire prophecy of Daniel and Revelation?

Friend, I have not read all of the other thread, so forgive me if this has already been stated. Many of the individuals on this particular board see Antiochus Epiphanes as the King of the North guy from Daniel, and Nero is the enemy from Revelation. Though Protestants had other, more polemical views during the Reformation, many of today’s Protestants and Catholics seem to interpret it this way. Anybody, please correct me if I’m wrong.

Now when Christ spoke of his Second Coming, he followed a pattern found throughout Bible prophecy: he interwove near and far prophecies together. That is why he could speak of the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans and connect it to his return. There were elements of that terrible time that point to him, as all things point to him. It is true that Daniel and Revelation may well contain future events interspersed with events that are now ancient history. But from my point of view, Daniel, 1 Maccabees, and Revelation all ultimately point to the triumph of Christ and his Church over sin, Satan, and death. Perhaps that is what we are supposed to learn from the prophetic books?

My question is, does Antiochus Epiphanes and Nero fulfill every prophecy?

These two men did not rule for EXACTLY a “time, times, and half a time”, 1260 days or 1260 years because in prophecy a day is a year. These men could have possibly been antichrists but not the antichrist power spoken of in Daniel and Revelation.

God wants His church to be prepared not only for His second coming but for the persecution and mark of the beast or nation right before His second coming. If the catholic church is the true church then shouldn’t they have the answers to these questions?

Anybody who studies their Bible like they should and let it define itself, will know that we are living in the last days.

Let’s prepare people.

This is from the Ask An Apologist forum.
[Q: Who or what is the “anti-christ?” (http://www.catholic.com/thisrock/1990/9002qq.asp)

A: The term antichrist is mentioned only a few times in the Bible and is used in singular and plural forms, implying there will be both a particular Antichrist as well as preceding antichrists. Because of their heinous crimes, men such as Nero, Hitler, and Stalin have been termed antichrists.

In 1 John 2:18 the term implies a particular man who, before the Second Coming, will persecute the Church with a ferocity never before experienced. 1 John 2:22 tells us that anyone who opposes the Father is an antichrist. 1 John 4:3 says, “Every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus does not belong to God. This is the spirit of the antichrist that, as you have heard, is to come, but in fact is already in the world.”

Bishop Polycarp of Smyrna (d. cir. A.D. 156) said in his Letter to the Philippians, “Everyone who does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is an antichrist.”

Paul’s reference to “the Lawless One” seems to be another allusion to the Antichrist. He’s described as a man who will be empowered by Satan, come forth in the end times, savagely persecute the Church, proclaim himself a god, and, through the signs and wonders he performs, be worshipped by most people living at that time.

Finally, when the time comes, the Antichrist will be destroyed by Jesus Christ when he returns in glory (2 Thess. 2:1-12).

By the way, the Church has made no formal definition on the matter, so Catholics are free to hold that the Antichrist was or will be an individual, a group of people, or a particularly wicked era. I hope this helps. Unlike some n-C communities and preachers, we Catholics do not sit around trying to define something like this because, (contrary to some preachers/teachers) the Bible has given us insufficient clues to discern this before the time comes.

Still, at every Mass we pray "Deliver us, Lord, from every evil, and grant us peace in our day. In your mercy keep us free from sin and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ."

Not necessarily. That is a dispensational theory passed off as fact by some n-Cs, but there is nowhere in the Bible where that is defined in that way, therefore it is very likely wrong.

Also, having read the Word of God, (all 73 books of it) several times, I have to disagree with you about the last days.

There are many things going on right now, but the Bible does not indicate that we are in the last days. (though they may be near). In fact, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself tells us…
[bibledrb]Matthew 24:6[/bibledrb]
[bibledrb]Mark 13:7[/bibledrb]
[bibledrb]Luke 21:9[/bibledrb]

Great Catholic answers…and none of them say that the AntiChrist will be the Catholic Church.

I don’t think there is an official position. My own view is that is was Nero to a small extant and The Roman Empire to a greater extant

The Catholic Church militant has been battling this antichrist since Pentecost. She has faced this beast in every age and continues to resist anti-Christ teachings and new false gospels doctrines that conflict with Jesus Christ teachings and Apostolic Traditions.

To limit ones revelation to man, who pretends to know the mysteries of God outside of the Catholic Church and Jesus revelations, falls into deception. Our fight is not against flesh and blood as many self proclaimed prophets falsely claim. Our battle is against the anti-christ powers and principalities that has infected, decieved, and introduces new false revelations and new false teachings to our humanity in every age. The Catholic Church is the only living life that has survived these past 2000 years of persecutions from anti-christ powers and principalities. And She will continue to fight the fight of faith, for the poor, the sick, the dying, prisoners and stand for life. The Catholic Church’s martyrs and saints give witness and testimony to these victories against the anti-christ throughtout history.

Is it any wonder that the father of lies wants to decieve the many and place them against the one Ark (Catholic Church) which can save them?

Romans 8:35 What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake we are being slain all the day; we are looked upon as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us.
38 **For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, 9 nor future things, nor powers,
39 nor height, nor depth, 10 nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. **

1 Corinthians 4: 1** Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. **

Paul has instructed the body of Jesus Christ (Catholic Church) who our enemy is;

Ephesians 6:10
1 Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and from his mighty power.
11
Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil.
12
**For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. **13
Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground.
14
So stand fast with your loins girded in truth, clothed with righteousness as a breastplate,
15
and your feet shod in readiness for the gospel of peace.
16
In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield, to quench all (the) flaming arrows of the evil one.
17
And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18
With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit. To that end, be watchful with all perseverance and supplication for all the holy ones
19
and also for me, that speech may be given me to open my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel

Peace be with you
