Who Does The Priest Confess To?

Who does the priest confess to?
Does the priest confess to God or himself or does he confess to another priest?

My understanding is that a priest confesses to another priest. Even the Pope goes to confession.

Priests commit sins like the rest of us. A priest will tell you this. Like laymen priests must also go to confession to receive the sacrament of absolution. Like everyone else they go to a priest. They are free, like we all are, to choose their confessor.

I have to wonder if this part of your question is related to other posts you’ve made about not confessing to a priest. Are you asking if priests confess directly to God so as to make it okay for you to do that?

As others have said, we go to confession to other priests.
