Who drummed the best?

A friend asked me who I thought was the best drummer ever.

He had a few ideas of his own but I threw out Carl Palmer or Buddy Rich.

Anyone think anyone is better than those two.

If you do not know of them or have never seen them drum you may want to check them out on YouTube
 
Gene Krupa. Listen again to the extended drum solo in Sing Sing Sing, the 1938 (I think) recording originally issued as both sides of a 12-inch 78.

I agree, Neal Peart from RUSH.
He is truly a master of his instrument and I don’t think I have ever heard a drummer like him.

I especially like watching him play. It is just amazing. Check him out on You Tube if you don’t know who he is.
 
Yes, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Louie Bellson, and Neil Peart were the greatest drummers of all time. My dad is a drummer, and these are the ones that we have always mentioned and listened to. 🙂

I had forgotten about Louie Bellson, thanks for mentioning him.👍

Would you rank them in that order?

I like how she takes a polite bow at the end; that cracks me up. But she’s gonna be ferociously, super-berserk good if she ever joins a band!🙂
 
Tony Williams, who was in Miles Davis’ Second Great Quintet, was also out of this world great. He put out some really over-the-top LPs of primarily drum music. Very powerful stuff that’s worth hunting around for.

Oh no, I had that list in no particular order. However, I still think that Buddy Rich was the most talented drummer of all time! 🙂
 
Keith Moon immediately came to mind.

And although I don’t like Rush, Neil Peart would be up high on the list. As wold Ginger Baker and Jon Bonham.
