Who else is ready for Vatican III?

I agree with those that say we are still working on implementing Vatican II. But I also think that we will need another council in no more than a few decades to take a look at the doctrinal controversies that will almost certainly remain.

No need for a council this current pope was previously incharge of the congregation of doctrine…A series of Motu Proprios could easily set the record straight on any renegade ideas that remain from the handiwork of agenda driven theologians.

My read of Church history is that there have been a number of times when there was some confusion and controversy over certain doctrines, and that is when councils came in to study those things. We have some of that kind of confusion and controversy now. Such controversie are more spread to the masses today (no pun intended) because of modern communications, so we may not have the luxury of waiting for everything to settle down (or a real hope that it will) before the next council. If I were a betting man, I would not put anything down on the current Pope instituting a council, for a number of reasons. But perhaps the next will feel its time again.

I don’t think this Pope will do anything he is just too old.

There is serious confusion in the Church. And while the Church has grown in third world countries since VII, it has become almost irrelevant in most western developed countries.

This is part of what I meant by’various reasons’ the current Pope would not convene a council. Benedict is a brilliant theologian and has spent that last twenty-five years consolidating the authority over the faith in Rome. I don’t see him letting a council have a say in doctrine. I am not sure I agree with him, but I think that is the way he will see it.

I see this everywhere, but have never seen an actual quote. I have read that he predicted a smaller and purer church many years ago. Frankly, I can’t imagine any Pope wanting a smaller Church. I would be interested in his take on these many quotes attributed to him. I think that the goal should be as large as possible and pure enough. Huge and pure enough beats small and perfect any day.

I feel like for lake of better words that we are going back wards. Vatican II isn’t being used as much in some Church’s. I don’t speak or understand Latin:blush: (I’m sure others don’t either), our lack of priests.
Perhaps it’s time for Vatican III.

I didn’t understand the OP either. The implication is that ‘Vatican II’ mandates not using Latin and that if you are, you’re going backwards!
