Non-Catholics, who founded the Catholic Church, in union with the Bishop of Rome? I am told the man’s name was not Jesus Christ. Name of the man or men that founded it and when please?

As a “Cradle Catholic” with Non Catholic friends, I find that an interesting question as well.
I’ve never heard an answer to it

Well lets see, there is Peter that the Catholics believe started the CC when Jesus said to him “upon this rock I will build my church.” But there is no mention of the word Catholic here. I believe it was called Christianty not Catholic.

Jesus never said he is starting the CC. Jesus only says “my church.” Kind of leaves if wide open to pick what church you believe he is talking about since he never mentions a specific church name or specific way to worship.

Now we have Constantine who in 312-313 wanted to unite the Roman Empire under a universal church that began the RCC and established himself as the head of the Church.

Then we have Theodosius who in 380 issued his edict De Fide Catolica declaring Catholic Christianty as the state religion of the Roman Empire.

Well…it was catholic…as in universal. Since no other church can trace their roots back 2,000 years…it was catholic. It was only during the reformation that other churchs broke off FROM the catholic church. As far as a specific way to worship…I believe there was a little thing called the last supper…

Kevin, it was not Constantine or Theodosius. Is that your final answer?

I ask you to show me where the word Catholic is 2000 years ago?
Show me where Peter said I am starting the CC.
Show me where Jesus said he is starting the CC.

Lets see wasn’t the CC kind of forced on the people of Rome? This is the only religion that is to be in Rome, ie a state religion.

Did Jesus said this is how you are to worship durning the last supper? If so show me those words. Show me where Jesus said “this is how you are to worship” during the last supper.

Look…I’m tired…so I’m only going to say it one more time…catholic (small c) as in universal church, which is what catholic meant. One universal catholic (again small c) christian church. Until the reformation.

As far as Jesus saying during the last supper…does “this is my body…do this in rememborance of me” sound familiar?

Joe…I think we both know the Rev Kevin is wrong on both counts…maybe he should have used his life line…😃

I am asking you to back up you’re statements, so why don’t you?

Yes it does sound familiar but it does not say he is in the bread now does it?
Back up your statement.

When things like this is said it only shows you can’t back up what you are calming? People resort to this kind of action when they don’t have the answers. PROVE ME WRONG Annabelle Marie.

=rev kevin;7198081]I gave options as to who started the CC. I never said it was my answer now did I?
No need to angry…:confused:I am just looking for an answer to this question brother. I am told by non-Catholics that the CC in union with the bishop of Rome was not founded by Jesus, so now I am attempting to find out who did start it.

Read up on the history of the Catholic Church…there you will find the answer. And may I suggest that you do it without your protestand glasses…and look at it objectively. My suggestion to eliminate your bias and hatred of the CC, is to read both the protestand and catholic perspective…that way you will find your way to the Truth.

I do not find it useful trying to prove something to someone with an obvious and built in bias…it will not go anywhere. It will be proven, then another hair splitting counter argument…and so on and so forth…

Well thanks for the advice but I must tell you one thing about me and that is I DO NOT HAVE ANY HATRED OF THE CC. I was raised Catholic and have said many many times here in the CAF that I am not anti-Catholic so please don’t accuse me of it. I just don’t agree with some of their teachings.
If you don’t want to prove anything to me then so be it, but without proof nobody would know anything.

Kev…I apologize if I mis-stated your hatred for the CC. From your postings, I can sense, if it is not a hatred, at the very least, a deep bias against the CC. And proving something to someone with already a deep bias will not be productive. It will just be counter arguments, ad infinitum, going around in circles. I think the best way to prove something to you is for you to find it yourself and objectively look at it. Look at it from a different perspective than what you have. As you so stated, you do not agree with all what the CC teaches, so this already belies some bias, though you may not want to admit it. My suggestion is for you to read both sides, then hopefully you will come to a discernment of what you seek.

Then the truth will set you free. As a parting question, what is the bulwark and pillar of Truth?

Hi Joe,
As Christ founded the Church Catholic at Pentecost, He certainly is the founder of the Catholic Church, those in communion with the Bishop of Rome, clearly the largest and perhaps the central part of His Church.
