Who have you forgiven?

I was sacked at the tender age of 62, I believe what they did was totally unfair and wrong. However, since being sacked, I have probably done about two thousand hours of voluntary work for the people who sacked me.

I often say to people that it is easier to do two thousand hours of voluntary work rather than to feel anger. I do not have the time or the energy to feel anger towards them.

Strange things happened, the day after being sacked, I was offered another job. About six months later, another branch of the company that sacked me, asked me to work part time for them. So I have now been working about six years for the company that sacked me. A number of people have approached me and asked me to work for them, this never happened previously in my life, I have always had to look for work.

One of the great things about being a Catholic is the belief that “feelings” are not that important. That’s helped me forgive. I may still “feel” hurt, wounded pride, even a flash of anger when I recall the situation, but my will forgives completely.

When Jesus spent his time on Earth, he could do nothing greater than live by the greatest commandments. But how did Jesus did Jesus look at the man who was nailing him to the cross, and still love him as he loved himself?

We know Jesus prayed forgive them Father, and forgiveness is a great thing to do. But we are commanded to do more than forgive, we are commanded to still love our enemies as we love ourselves.

The love Jesus showed is beyond my understanding, and we know that it is our sins that are also nailing Jesus to the cross.

This is great prayer.

Lord Jesus, I come before Thee, just as I am, I am sorry for my sins, I repent of my sins, please forgive me. In Thy Name, I forgive all others for what they have done against me. I renounce Satan, the evil spirits and all their works. I give Thee my entire self, Lord Jesus, I accept Thee as my Lord God and Saviour. Heal me, change me, strengthen me in body, soul, and spirit.

Come Lord Jesus, cover me with Thy Precious Blood, and fill me with Thy Holy Spirit, I love Thee Lord Jesus, I praise Thee Lord Jesus, I thank Thee Jesus, I shall follow Thee every day of my life. Amen.

Blessed virgin Mary help me. Amen.
