Just curious - in our Missalettes, the second paragraph of today’s second reading (Colossians 3:12-21) is bracketed and can be omitted for the “shorter version” even though the “longer version” is only two paragraphs long. Of course, the bracketed section (3:18-21) includes Paul’s discussion of wives being subordinate to husbands, husbands loving wives and children obeying parents.
In the Mass I attended, the bracketed paragraph was not read. I am wondering how it is handled elsewhere. I sense a great deal of apprehension regarding the passage, and yet I know that the message conveyed is central to the Theology of the Body, in that the submission within the marriage is an emulation of Christ himself. It is a tricky passage, and I guess avoidance of it is one strategy.
So did people hear it today? Did anyone dare to preach about in the homily? Again, just curious.
