I teach religion at a Catholic school, and one of my students asked me, “If a priest is married to the Church, who is a nun married to?” My thought would be that a nun is “married” to Christ, but not in a physical sense; rather, in a spiritual sense. Is this correct? How do you suggest that I respond?

As you said, a nun is the spiritual bride of Christ. And, because of his status as an *alter Christus *(Latin, “another Christ”) a priest is the spiritual bridegroom of the Church.
