Who is excited about the Tridium?

Holy Week really fills my soul with excitement. Is it just me? :highprayer:
The beauty of the liturgies is so moving- a piece of heaven on earth. :harp:

Sitting here waiting for Holy Thursday, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning waiting to open my presents. Maybe its because I’ve always been involved in some way- either as an alter boy or a musician? This year my daugher joined the music ministry so for me it’s extra special. 🙂

Does anyone else feel this way? What makes it special for you?
 
I am excited and trepidations at the same time. I just love the Triduum liturgy, but it also fills me with great sadness to see the alter stripped and then I sit until the church goes empty and dark and then I leave slowly and most quietly. The parking lot is empty and the night is cold and usually windy. It’s a rather somber experience.
 
I look forward to Holy Week too. Two years ago on Holy Thursday, I went to confession for the 1st time in 12 years. That particular holy week will always be very special for me. :crossrc:
 
For me it’s usually the one time of year where we really reach back and do things very traditionally, very somber. Plus, there’s just something rewarding about going through Thursday then Friday and it just makes Saturday night seem so much more joyful. I always cry when the candlelight is passed through the church on Saturday. Obviously it’s meant to be symbolic but it’s just “the” perfect symbol. I sit there (or rather stand there) and wonder why the entire world doesn’t see the light.

Me, me, me.

I love the services as well…especially the adoration of the cross on Good Friday. I wish my church would celebrate it with a bit more solemnity but they do have a taxing schedule due to the crowds. It’s very moving, nonetheless. I also wish I could have served for the services but I’m too *old *😛 😦

I am excited. I took a week of vacation just for Holy Week! I plan on doing the entire Triduum and then some - Tenebrae, Solemn Vespers, Easter Sunday Mass, and Byzantine Divine Liturgy.

I was just going to post about this! I too have an excitement that’s hard to put into words. :harp:
 
I’m also excited about the Triduum. This is only my 3rd Easter as a Catholic, and the first one where I haven’t participated as part of the choir (I just moved). Unfortunately, I’m going to miss the Easter Vigil on Saturday because I’ll be on a plane. :crying: I booked the flight months ago, not realizing it was Easter weekend. Oh, well. You can bet I’ll be at Mass on Easter morning.
 
^And it’s my second Easter Vigil–two years since I became Catholic! I missed last year’s Vigil because of after-birth complications with SweetGirlTwo, so I’ll be there on Saturday with bells on. 👍

I’m looking forward to the Triduum…my favorite time within the Catholic Church. The somber remeberance of all that our Lord has done for each one of us is beautiful and humbling. I am taking Friday off as well, to spend it in prayer with my family. Happy Easter, in advance, everyone!

I guess you get to attend for me as well, then. I’ll make sure to have my rosary with me on the plane. I can at least be there through prayer.
 
I am!! I am!!! I love the solemnity of Holy Week, and I have yet to make it through the baptisms during the Easter vigil without shedding a tear. Part of it is just being there to share their joy–doesn’t seem to matter if I know them or not. It’s just really beautiful.

Our kids are small, so getting us both out for all three services has proved challenging, but my wonderful hubby has graciously taken on kiddo duty so that I can go it alone and really focus.

My husband and I were received into the Catholic Church in 2004, and this year, our oldest daughter will be received into the Catholic Church!

We’re driving to her city to be at the Easter Vigil Mass.

One daughter (and her husband!) to go! Plus all our extended family!
 
Maybe excited is the right word…but I does fill me with expectation. I came back to the church during Easter 2 years ago and my life has changed so much for the better. Now, I plan my schedule and am so happy to be able to go.
 
Hmm…To be honest, the Triduum is the time I dread the most. (I know, I have to ruin it for everyone)

It seems to be the time that priests think that it’s acceptable to really mess with the liturgy. Last year the parish I went to left the wine and bread out for adoration at the end of Holy Thursday. The bread was not in a monstrance, but just sitting on the altar. I could have gone and taken some if I didn’t know any better. I can imagine that if no one was in the Church at the time and someone came in there and didn’t know any better, they might have taken some. (Note that this was homemade bread, not the typical wafers that you have at normal parishes)

Further, there’s something about the Holy Saturday Mass that bothers me. I think it has to do with that the day before-from our perception-Jesus was crucified. Then on Saturday night we celebrate His resurrection? Let’s at least have three days - Friday, Saturday, Sunday!

Then a lot of priests somehow got the idea that confessions are forbidden on Holy Saturday! This is not true, and the CDF has stated otherwise, yet this sacrament is denied to many Catholics who need it! If anything, confessions should be available all day and Catholics should be encouraged to go that day of all days!

If I’m this bitter while in my 20s, how will I be when I’m 80 or 90? :rolleyes:

We do not in some way “re-create” Jesus being crucified all over again and then somehow “re-experience” his resurrection. The entire three days commemorate the entire paschal mystery.

:mad: Don’t read me as if I’m some fundamentalist. I know that it is a commemoration, but there is a reason we commemorate it on the days that it actually happened, namely, to make it more present to us. But when we celebrate Easter on Saturday night -according to our perception (I am well aware of the differences in Jewish perception of days) - we miss out on the proper meaning. I do not see why we should have the Easter Vigil. It is much more appropriate as a commemoration to commemorate the Resurrection when the disciples did: Sunday morning.

I’m sorry you feel this way but I do understand. What you need to do is find a new parish. I’m certain that not all parishes in the Archdiocese are as you describe. (There’s a little diocese to the south of you that has wonderful parishes.) 😃

I was once in a parish that made Holy Week upsetting to the point that I would attend the Tridium at another church. I realized that if going to Mass causes me anger due to abuses or irreverence it was time to move on. 🤷

God lead me to my current parish and I can assure you there are no liturgical abuses here. :highprayer:

Don’t let the mistakes of men take away from celebrating the most definig moment of our faith. Pray that God will lead you to the right place. There are many young adults like you that want reverence and sacredness back in the liturgies. With that thinking the church has a bright future.

I love Easter Vigil. This is my 4th Easter Vigil and my 3rd one as a Catholic. The liturgy is so beautiful… . It is such a joy to watch people come in to the church!!!

I’m going to go to Mass tonight and to devotions tomorrow. Our Bishop is leading the Stations of the Cross at the local abortion clinic and I’d like to go to that also. (depends on the weather as we may get a fair amount of snow in the next couple of days.)
