It sounds like you’re saying that we are sinners from birth (thanks to Adam), and we sin because we are sinners. I agree with that. But just because we’re born sinners does not excuse our sin. I would guess that you are misinterpreting this passage (since you don’t explain how you interpret it, I don’t know for sure, but your line of questioning leads me to believe you are misinterpreting it). Notice that Paul admits that he knows good from bad based on the Law, and even though he wants to do the good, he ends up following his human nature (the flesh) into sin. He nowhere says he is not responsible for his sin. However, he does say, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.” (Rom 8:1-2 RSV). I am curious about something. If you don’t believe we are responsible for sin, on what basis do you think God will judge you?
