The only place that “Lucifer” is mentioned is in Isaiah 14 but it doesn’t refer to him as the leader of the fallen angels. So, where did we get the idea that he is Satan?

Also, in Mark 3, Jesus refers to “Beelzebub” as being Satan and Revelations 9:11 calls “Abaddon / Apollyon” as the prince of the fallen angels.

Isaiah 14:12 in the King James Version says “Lucifer.” Lucifer is a Latin term for Venus, which is the morning star. Look in other translations, and you will see Isaiah 14:12 says “morning star.” Essentially, when the translators of the KJV did Isaiah, for some reason they took the Latin term and put it into English as a proper noun. From there, the identification of Satan with the name Lucifer took off. 400 years later, here we are!

I believe that Lucifer also comes from some older traditions as well, finding a basis in St. Paul’s words that Satan sometimes appears as an angel of light. Luci is the Latin word from which we get our english word light.

If you want to research this on the internet, be sure to stick around here because you’ll see some rather crazy claims about it out there, particularly the translation of the KJV.
