Who is the authority of your church?

And please don’t say Jesus Christ, because Christ would not invent 30,000 denominations with contradictory beliefs.
The pope is the authority of my church, if something goes wrong, the pope is the one who fixes things. Who would do that in your church? Seriously, just wondering…
 
In ‘unprogrammed’ Meetings, it is the Meeting as a whole. No one person has “authority” to make deciscions that affect the whole…any dispute or question on polity is reached through concensus…the Presiding Clerk mediates and states the “sense of the Meeting”…if some diagree that the “sense of the Meeting” is as the Clerk stated, the discerning process continues.

But Jesus left authority to Peter, and Peter only, where we have an unbroken link from 2,000 years ago as pope.

The Authority of the Catholic Church rests in Jesus Christ. The earthly holder of the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven is whomever the Holy Spirit selects as the earthly shepard of the See of Peter.
 
Perhaps a better question would be, who established your church? If it wasn’t Christ then what do you do when that person dies and the faith of that church takes a U-turn or even just veers? The authority of the one who established it cannot speak from the grave unless it is indeed Jesus Christ. He only established one holy catholic apostollic church.

Given that, who do you go to for authority and how do you know he/they is/are trustworthy? Especially given that scripture is widley misrepresented and has been misused by people of both good and bad intent.

The disciples given the power to forgive sins.
It was not passed on of course because the disciples, who were also called apostles, only applies to those who have seen the risen lord.
There is nothing in the Bible to indicate that anyone who has not seen the lord can be an apostle.

The Apostle Paul did not see the risen Lord.

Can you provide Biblical support for what you have posted here?

God put Moses in charge. It was Moses who chose his successor, Joshua. God made Aaron the High Priest. It was Aaron who chose his successor. And that successor chose his and so on. Obviously there is Biblical precedent for succession.

And you have not answered the question of this thread.

Who, that is what living person, is the authority of your church?

It is clear in the account in Acts that Paul saw a vision of the Lord, not Him in the flesh. Others saints down through the ages have had visions of the Lord as well.

Yes, in Acts, the matter would be unclear, certainly the other men did not see Christ but Acts only says he did not see him after he got up off the ground. Thankfully Paul gives us the full scope. Paul SAW him just like the others did. Cannot argue with the Bible!
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
6After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
7After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
8And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
9For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

It is the Friend’s testimony that we live in that virtue and power of which the apostles and prophets of old lived. We do not accept the authority of any church, bishop, priest, minister or book placed in authority over us.
 
Here’s another way…

Does anyone in your church make decisions on matters of faith and morals other than Jesus Christ?

How are these revealed? through scriptural interpretation, of which only one point of view out of 30000+ is correct, or is it through private revelation?

Jesus said to his apostles. “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.”

You have to ask yourself, how did the father send Jesus?

The answer, I say, was to forgive sins and send His disciples to forgive sins.

So the apostles were sent in like manner… to forgive sins and to send His disciples to forgive sins.

How is this done? As Paul points out, by the (Levitical) laying on of hands and as Jesus has done by breathing on them.
