Who is "the disciple Jesus loved"?

He may have, but he is not the Beloved Disciple. Isn’t he mentioned alongside the Beloved Disciple? I’ve read the common interpretation that it’s John and even an alternative that it’s a way of referring to Lazarus, but I don’t know of anyone who has said it’s Peter (besides you just now).

Your right its not Peter (John 20:2)

The Topic is about …“the disciple Jesus loved.” Not who loved Jesus the most.

Does anyone else feel like John may have been quite an arrogant person when in his own gospel he’s referring to himself as the “Disciple Jesus loved”? This always has actually made me question the authenticity of it. If he was writing it why not just say “I” or " because Jesus loved me". Why speak in the third person? Plus maybe he wanted Christ to love him more. On no other gospel would you believe John is. From every indication, Peter was loved the most.

I think the writer was St, John. I see John not mentioning his name as an act of humility in only referencing himself in relation to Jesus.

If he were to reference himself as ‘the disciple Jesus loved the most’ or ‘the only disciple Jesus loved’ or ‘the most beloved disciple’ then it could be said to be arrogant.
